A lovely place to stay if passing through the beautiful Ossau valley or walking the Pyrenees GR10 path, A warm welcome and comfortable modern room with bath and shower. A nice breakfast dinner and evening meal available and although the staff were rushed of their feet they were very helpful. A recommended comfortable stay in a stunning area of France .

If you come here, it is probably because you walk the trans-Pyrennean hiking path GR10. Then any hotel, particulary one with a bar and an expresso machine, is paradise.

The hotel is in the tiny hamlet Gabas, up in a valley, surrounded by forests and majestic mountains.

The service was good, the food was all right. The room was spacey and had a country feeling. There was a dead spider in the bath tub, but I am not afraid of spiders. Particulary not the dead ones. The general feeling is very French. The dining room is dark. The guests whispered. Everybody ate the same.

It seemed to be a family business. They were nice enough. There was wifi in the bar area.

Gabas has no shops. The bus to Laruns took 15 minutes. but there was no bus back. I took a taxi.

I lean a little towards thrre dots, but it was cheap. And they were there.

Gabas is a tiny village not far from the France/Spain border. Hotel Biscau is small and simple, delightfully catching the atmosphere of the area. My room was completely refreshed, rather bare, but with a surprisingly generous bathroom. The window looked out over the Pyrenees. Staff were courteous and friendly. Demi-pension cost me 57 euros. There was no choice for dinner but the meal served was thoroughly acceptable.

The more fashionable ski resort of Artouste is a few minutes up the road but I much prefer Gabas. Old, stiff-legged Pyrenean mountain dogs wander the street. You may see the road half-blocked by a lorry unloading sheep, some with bells round their necks. You'll certainly hear cows, also with bells, grazing in the adjoining fields.

The only 'fly in the ointment' was a surfeit of flies. After clearing the corpses and swatting the survivors, my room was soon buzzing again. The breakfast room was also well populated with flies, fortunately not the biting kind. If you stay at le Biscau, bring a swatter or spray.

This isn't the Ritz and shouldn't be judged by such a yardstick. Instead, it's a very pleasant small hotel in a small village with a tiny historic chapel and one of the smallest lavoirs in France. The Hotel Biscau won't suit tourists with a taste for five star living but I liked it very much indeed.

I came across this hotel when looking for somewhere to stay close to le Petit Train D'Artouste. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The accommodation was excellent - in fact the most comfortable bed I have slept in during a years' stay in France!! The ensuite was large and both bedroom and bathroom were very clean and beautifully presented. From the balcony there is a view of the main street and the soaring mountains behind. The dinner provided was very good. Breakfast was adequate. The village of Gabas is tiny with a lovely 1120's church and best of all, the beautiful cream coloured cows and herds of sheep went by in the evening with their bells ringing musically in the evening air. This was a lovely peaceful spot to spend a part of my time in France, and my hosts were most hospitable.
