We travel to Greece every August from South Africa, and Eleana’s apartments was one of the best places we’ve stayed at in Greece.
It was my mom, myself and my 2 kids, 15 and 11, we stayed in a double room with a lounge, Eleana put 2 single beds in the lounge and it was perfect. The kitchen was perfect for us, a stovetop to fry or boil something, kettle, fridge etc all immaculate. Bathroom immaculate. The whole room and balcony was immaculate, ceiling fan was fantastic. As for Ireon, what a stunning little village. Eleana’s is 2 minutes walk to the beaches, plateia, and plenty excellent tavernas. All the tavernas were fantastic, nothing “touristy”, all excellent food. Lots of fresh fish, magierefta, grills, gyros, etc, breakfast waffles, all excellent places. A stunning little bakery downstairs from Eleana with THE most delicious varieties of breads freshly baked every morning. Eleana was always making something for us or bringing us fresh fruit and olive oil and olives etc. We hired a car for the 10 days we were there and we went to THE most stunning beaches and villages. Ireon is 6km from Pythagorion, 12km from Vathi, and about 18km from Kokkari. Our favorite beaches were Pappas beach , breathtaking sea, with excellent food (15 minute walk from Ireon) Psilli Ammos gorgeous sea and the freshest fish and octopus and view at Psilli Ammos taverna. Mykale beach also stunning. Lots more beautiful beaches. This Island really has stunning stunning beaches and sea . What was awesome about Ireon was that if you wanted to stay there all day and eat there, it was awesome. But if you wanted to go to Pythagorion for the harbor and more shops and sightseeing, it was a 10 minute drive. Anywhere else on the island probably 30-40minutes away.
The other thing I need to mention is that my daughter Elena had caught a flu virus and had a high fever etc for 2 days and stayed in bed for 2 days. Eleana and her mom were SO wonderful, she phoned for doctors (a fantastic doctor in Pythagorion), they made Elena fresh Camomile and Luisa teas, I would have battled without their help.
We had a fantastic 10 days at Eleana’s, and when my husband’s able to leave his work for awhile next time, we’ll definitely be back x x
Whenever you want to stay at Samos, go to Ireon and book one of the lovely studio's of Eleana!
I stayed more than three weeks at her place and enjoyed every second of it. The rooms are sunny, very very clean and nicely decorated with warm colors. Eleana and her mom spoiled me with all kind of treats : cake, traditional food, eggs, olives, cheese, lemonade, olive oil...and I had fresh flowers in my room when I arrived.
The location could not be better with the seaview and very close to the square.
I just cannot wait to go back there again!
Having decided on a last minute holiday we booked direct flights to Samos & booked 2 weeks at the Eleana Apts in Ireon. We could not have hoped for a more wonderful holiday.
It started with Eleana picking us up from the airport and taking us to our one bedroom apt which was large & spacious with a balcony which had views down to the sea & to the hills. We also met her Mother, Father & son –Maria, Spiros & Costas and her brother Vangelis who also looked after us so well. Eleana even had us over for breakfast one day as she loves people to sample local food which she makes herself. The whole family wants to ensure you have a great holiday and everything you need & we kept finding things in our apt, homemade cheese pies, dolmades, fruit, we were really spoilt. Thank you so much Eleana & family. Ireon is a lovely village with very friendly people & just enough tavernas & bars. Samos is a beautiful Island & we hired a car (recommended by Eleana) from Friendly Car Hire in the village & the name says it all, Costas & his family are really friendly. We toured Samos which is a beautiful Island with lots of resorts but it was always lovely to return to Eleana Apts & Ireon.
If we had to sum up this 2 week holiday:-
Eleana Apts/Studios 10/10
Friendly Car Hire 10/10
Ireon Village 10/10
Samos Island & People 10/10
The whole off our holiday 10/10
So if you are looking for a wonderful holiday in Samos contact Eleana & go to Ireon. Thank you Eleana & family for making our holiday so wonderful and yes we do definitely want to return. All the best for the future Best Wishes Jean & Paul xx
We’ve just booked to go back to Eleana’s this year and I realise that I haven’t written up a review of our stay last year.
Just to give you some background information, Samos is one of the larger Greek islands so there is a lot to see and to do. There are many historical sights, as well as a large unspoilt coastline and some beautiful walks and boat trips.
Samos is famous for the wine that it produces and, because the soil is very fertile, they also produce much of their own food. This means that, not only will you always eat extremely well in Samos with incredibly fresh ingredients, it is cheaper to eat out than many other of the smaller islands, which have to ship in supplies from other parts of Greece.
Ireon, where Eleana’s apartments is located, is a quiet village with a couple of lovely stretches of beach. Both beaches have excellent cafes where you can get lunch – freshly caught fish, Greek salad and a cold beer being my preferred option – and hire sunbeds and umberellas. The beaches are not crowded and there is always plenty of room, even in the height of summer.
Ireon itself has a central square with an excellent traditional Greek Kafenion where you can sit with an ices coffee (or something stronger) and people watch. There are also some really excellent bars and restaurants, as well as a supermarket and two or three general stores for stocking up with food and holiday essentials.
There is a cash machine in the central square, along with a taxi rank. Buses also leave regularly from here to go to various locations around the island. Buses are cheap and (usually) air-conditioned.
Nearby Pythgroria is a lovely town with a stunning harbour full of beautiful yachts and some excellent bars and restaurants. It has some interesting historical sights including the Castle of Likourgos, an important defensive structure in protecting Samos against Turkish invasion. Pythagoria is just 20 minutes away from Ireon by bus, or 10 minutes in a taxi (approx 6 euros).
Eleana’s is made up of 4 apartments and two studios. All of them are spotlessly clean and bright, with simple cooking facilities, and outside space – either a balcony or a terrace.
Ileana, who runs the place with her mum, and who lives upstairs with her family, is an absolutely fantastic hostess. Without imposing on your privacy she makes you feel incredibly welcome, and there are often presents of home-made cake, or fruit from her family’s own vines waiting for you when you come in from the beach. Staying here is like coming home, that’s how easy, warm and stress-free it all is.
I just can’t recommend the place enough, and hope that you find this information useful.
Stayed at Eleana Apartments in October, 2010 and had a great time. Eleana was at the airport, as organised, to pick us up. She is the most happy and obliging person...very sweet!
Our room was lovely and from our balconies, we could see the ocean. Because we visited Samos at the end of the tourist season, we almost had Ireon to ourselves which was rather nice. Eleana asked us to have dinner with her family the first night of our stay and we really appreciated her hospitality. She cooked up a storm and made us feel very much at home.
Eleana helped us with our sightseeing and explained how to get to other parts of the island.
I would highly recommend staying at Eleana Apartments if you visit the lovely island of Samos.
