We came in May & had a lovely stay. The owner could not have been more accommodating, giving us advice on where to eat & use of the bikes to get around. Waiter was lovely, served breakfast with a smile & great conversation. Gorgeous grounds & loved the fact I would be woken to the sounds of animals & also see a variety of wildlife just chilling on the porch. The room was spacious & immaculate, great decor. You are 15 - 20 mins cycle from town and a good 45 min walk so need a bike to get around.
The only gripe I did have was that I had no hot water for the shower & also due to this time of year was very humid and made the sheets feel slightly damp due to the humidity. Maybe at some point a humidifier will be of use. Overall a wonderful stay.
Very conveniently located across playa Cocles and few minutes from Puerto Viejo on one side and Punta Uva in the other.
With a bike you can move around easily and pleasantly. There are nice restaurant around the corner and even a supermarket.
The property in extremely peaceful, the only noises you hear are those of nature.
The six bungalows are very large with lovely individual patios to enjoy the garden and the perfume of is flowers.
All is in real polished wood, and the room stay fresh throughout the day even when out it's very hot. I slept every night without the need of the big ceiling fan.
The French owner was incredibly hospitable. He really takes care of his guests individually with such care and attention that really makes you feel at home. I even got a departure gift!
Finally breakfast was really tasty with lots of fresh fruit among other things and portions so generous that I had to skip lunch everyday!
The overall experience was so good that I can easily say that this was my favourite stop in Costa Rica.
For our first trip to this coast, we feel lucky to have chosen this small slice of heaven for home base. We had a car to make small journeys, but we really didn't need it: beach is a 5 minute walk from the gate; excellent restaurants and bakeries close by; frequent tik tiks could whisk you to the shopping of Puerto Viejo.
Christian and Luis treated us like honored guests. Their staff is friendly and efficient. Breakfast of fruit, fruit juices, jams, toast, eggs, and fabulous coffee left us beyond satisfied each morning.
And then the room...unique among the many places around the world I've enjoyed. Thoroughly modern and incorporating the elements of nature, it was luxurious at the same time it connects you to the tropical surroundings. Local woods, sumptuous bedding, open windows, cooling fans, excellent wifi, privacy plantings of orchids and green growing things, abundant hot water, lazy hammocks.
Oh, and did I mention the dawn wake up call? Insistent birds, howler monkeys...the jungle lies just beyond the wall and reminds you that you've chosen a small slice of heaven.
Christian and Luis were the perfect hosts! Friendly, funny, accommodating in every way.Our villa was simply stunning. Gorgeous wood, huge comfy bed, gigantic shower, bug-proof(unless you keep your sliding door open). The landscaping is beautiful and you can hear all the wonderful jungle sounds from your room. The breakfast was gourmet with homemade bread, fruit, and different specials offered each day.Christian arranged last-minute activities for us(horseback riding, massages) He even offered to lend me some money when I was running low on cash!! The location is perfect. Not in the middle of town with all the noise, but a 10-minute bike ride away(they have bikes you can rent very cheaply) This was by far the best place we stayed in during our 2-week trip.
The bungalow is indeed very beautiful, impeccably clean, the bed is super comfortable and the sheets and blankets are amazing.
There's also European current for anyone who needs.
There are a few things we were missing - a safety deposit box (crucial in a city in which you go to the beach and don't want to take your valuables with you) and a kettle with coffee or tea.
There's only a bed in the room, a refrigerator, a desk and a chair. That's it, but some people like it simple I guess.
The hotel is not really in Puerto Viejo but in Cocles, meaning a 10-15 min walk in a road which has no sidewalk and is not lit at night.
The staff is amazing, helpful and kind, doing all in their power to make your stay pleasant and serene. The hammocks add to that too :)
