We stayed here for 5 nights on our 10 night visit to Panama.
It is about 25 minutes drive from the airport, the last 15 minutes was very bumpy but beautiful scenery. Greeted on arrival by Gary and Betsy who were wonderful hosts during our stay. The bungalows are very comfortable and an enormous amount of attention to detail has gone into the design. They are located in stunning gardens, which have again been planned to maximise the wildlife. There is a fantastic long beach on your doorstep, with huge waves which attract the surfers, and we enjoyed walking along and watching them in action. It also has a lovely pool with areas in the sun and shade, perfect for relaxing.
There is lots of lovely walks directly outside, both through jungle and to secluded beach coves. The breakfast is excellent. We ate at the hotel a couple of nights and also other restaurants nearby, all serving wonderful food.
We would highly recommend anyone to stay at The Hummingbird.
Stayed with Gary and Betsy at the Hummingbird for what's becoming an annual pilgrimage. It's such a beautiful location, seconds away from the pristine Bluff Beach and the Caribbean Sea, with the jungle all around (apart from in the sea). The rooms, the pool, the bar, the restaurant, even Osa the dog - all of them perfect. Sloths and monkeys around in abundance again, although it certainly helps that Gary has a knack for seeking them out.
I can't recommend the place highly enough for anyone wanting to get away from it all, listen to the sea, wander in the jungle, see the stars, watch the wildlife, eat excellent food and drink great wine (and maybe the odd bottle of Balboa). A great antidote to modern life.
We spent four days at Hummingbird in one of the bungalows, which were comfortable, well-appointed, and nicely set in a jungle-like location. The pool was great for relaxation, and the set breakfasts were very good. The nearby beach was too rough for swimming but it made for good walks, Happy hour was fun (with interesting locals showing up) and we ate dinner there one night (fine) but there are other good restaurants within walking distance to provide options.
Gary and Betsy were great and Gary has a telescope set up for watching the local sloths in the trees. We got a sloth close-up photo when he noticed one that was descending from a nearby tree, which is rare. Gary also helped us immensely when we accidentally left a pair of shoes upon departure - he managed to get the shoes to us at our next stop. We would happily stay there again!
This was the perfect end to our holiday.
Beautiful spot with a sea breeze meant the temperature was always perfect.
Relaxing by the pool, the staff were very attentive with cocktails always on offer.
If you like waves the sea right on your doorstep gets some pretty decent surf.
Rooms were beautiful, and it was the only place we found on the island that seemed to care about the environment - twice filtered rainwater instead of plastic bottles.
Food was great, and Gary was very good to us, giving us a very late checkout and always on hand if we needed anything.
Great wildlife right on site - we found trying to take photos of the hummingbirds strangely addictive!
Above all, it was also great value for money.
Strongly recommend making this part of your panama trip.
My husband & I spent 5 nights recently at the Hummingbird and cannot say enough good things about it. The owners, Betsy & Garry are incredibly friendly and helpful. The staff as well. The garden and the pool are both spectacular. Our room was spacious and clean. The location is quiet and a 20 minute taxi ride to town. I highly recommend this property.
