Basic cleanliness seemed to go out the window for these people. The entire place needed a serious deep clean as well as an upgrade on fixtures. There were layers of soap scum on the bathroom faucets, dried on grease on the stove and the wall next to the stove. There was mold on the shower enclosure as well as the dish racks. The laminate from the bed head was sticking out as well as one of the dressers side was peeling. In the kitchen there were these open blocks that you could see straight into the apartment from the pool area. No Privacy. Now the pictures are of the second room we were in and I wish I had taken pictures of the first. We were moved from the first room because there was an abundance of biting ants. The bed spread was stained and the kitchen was so tiny that you couldnt even open the fridge all the way. The bathroom was filthy as well as the kitchen. The owner boasted about how they were in safety compliance however when you looked at the fire extinguisher it was due to be serviced back in 2008 but clearly never was.
Additionaly when we got to the second room we had no television. It had no service and even when the electrician came they still could not get it to work. The owner stated she would reduce the price but when we asked for 50TT/ 8US off the room rate she said that no she is not going to do that as we got a room upgrade and that we had a/c and a pool so we should be satisfied. She gave us 25TT/4US off and said she thought that was more than enough. We told her we were not satisfied but she just ignored us and told us basically that she thought we had gotten enough. I could not believe this lady had the gall to tell me that. If I wanted to relax in my room and watch a show I could not and according to her the pool more than made up for that. Mind you I didnt even venture to use the pool as it just looked unkept. All in all I was most unsatisfied. She boasted that the place while not luxurious it was habitable but if you ask me it barely even was. My advice is to find somewhere else.
*Pool not suitable for kids (10ft)
*My room was not ready was given a bed upstairs with no ac and a mosquito net😒
*Only the bedroom have ac
*Stayed one night had to look for another place
*If you still considering this place don't take the back apartments it's gross, trees everywhere you look with the smell of ripe mangoes causing flies to enter the brick holes into the apartment.
We spent 9 weeks at Bijou des Caraibes (January – March 2014) while escaping Michigan's cold weather. From booking the apartment to the end of our stay, we were delighted. We were truly surprised when we arrived to find that Judy put us in the one bedroom apartment for the same price as the studio we had requested. As stated in the other reviews, a car is nice to have, but it doesn't take long to see the island. The Mt. Irvine beach is within easy walking distance across the golf course. We took the bus to and from Scarborough, and we certainly had to wait, but we never got stranded. We would not try to go via bus to Charlotteville or Speyside, as one may not get a bus returning to Scarborough. There is a small store in Bethel, a short, pleasant walk from Bijou des Caraibes, for picking up milk, bread, juice, etc. Judy offered to take us grocery shopping when she went; all we needed to do was ask. If we needed utensils for cooking, she was happy to get them for us. We loved the pool! Internet, Cable TV, and everything was what we wanted. Bijou des Caraibes is not listed as a 5 star resort, but there is nothing we could do in a 5 star resort that we could not do at Bijou des Caraibes. We will forever have fond memories of our 2014 escape!

We stayed for 5 weeks, 3 in the 1 bedroom Apt, and 2 in the 2 bedroom Apt. The location is good, a car a necessity, Anne, the cleaner does an excellent job, fresh towels every day, Apt. cleaned & tidied and fresh linen frequently. The apartments themselves are tired and in need of a good redecorating, and in some instances new furniture. The kitchen appliances and pans are really quite bad. The Electrics require sorting out, only half of the wall plugs worked, and not with European plugs!
A good size pool, and nice gardens. Electric gates did not work so it was necessary for our friends to become "Gate Opener & Closer" as they had a dog that wandered.
Judith (Owner) is a very hospitable person and offered to do all sorts for us, but...I would have preferred better accommodation.
Tobago itself is a little run down, with many restaurants closing, including the long standing "DILLONS", but on the whole we had a good stay, made better by having friends with us for the first 3 weeks.
Now everyone's experience will be the same obviously some will be different but that being said i find it hard to connect the gracious host judy gemmet with the previous reviewers assessment of her.. Anyway I have stayed in numerous villas and hotels in tobago and whilst some where more luxurious i can say Bijou Des Caraibes has become one of my favs.. Bijou is a well maintained villa with four apartment types.. Having had a very long delay in flight and an overall bad start, on arrival Ms. Gemmet informed me that her studio apt which i booked was not available as the ac was not working well and she upgraded me free of charge to her two bedroom apartment, which was expansive and suited the needs of me and my friend. The pool is clean and was always warm and was never crowded.. The rooms are very simplistic but overall clean and comfortable, everything was in working order, one suggestion would be a put an full size mirror in one of the bedrooms :) Ms. Gemmet has a truly remarkable aura and one of the sweetest persons i've ever met in the service industry. So overall i would definitely recommend this place to persons not fussy, enjoys peace and quiet and has an owner that always makes herself available..
So thanks Ms. Gemmet to you and your son for the help with my phone and the eventual charger which was given to me and for making our stay a memorable one in Tobago and i can't wait to return soon! :)
