We arrived and felt at home, welcomed by Stephanie and shown the house. Our room was comfortable , we opted to pay for the aircon. Rooms were cleaned by Diana, towels and sheets are changed twice a week. Diana was very friendly and told us about the local street food at Lisa’s around the corner from the house, it was delicious 😋

The house was directly across the road from the beautiful beach, far better than I dreamt of. Here we rented sun loungers and sun umbrella $30 a day. The locals would all say good morning as we passed, but were just being friendly. The beach is very safe, a lovely lagoon where turtles swam passed while we were standing only chest deep in the clear sea.

In the mornings we would have breakfast on the veranda and if we were lucky we could get a fresh egg left for us. The kitchen at the house has everything you could want, not that we did any cooking. We would take the short walk to the Gap, this is where the nightlife was and loads of restaurants, street food and bars.
We had a wonderful time tasting the rum! We met some lovely people on the beautiful island of Barbados 😀
One evening we met Bridget the owner, she was organising some maintenance on the house. Lovely lady, very friendly and chatty. We paid her for a late checkout as we were on a evening flight. Well worth the money, we spent a morning on the beach, Stephanie arranged our taxi to the airport.
We can highly recommend Beach House Cleverdale for a perfect down to earth holiday experience on the shores of the turquoise blue sea.

Thanks for your nice review. We are happy that you had a great time staying at beach guesthouse Cleverdale and in Barbados. The Government of Barbados need guest to advertise as they don't have the money to pay for advertisements all over the world. Thanks for recommending Barbados and Cleverdale to your friends as it helps small business people like us. When ever you book direct with us via email we can give you and your friends discounted rates as we wouldn't have to pay the high fees in commissions to companies. Maybe Stephanie mentioned that you can also book the complete 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house if you are coming with a group or family. All the best from everybody working for beach guesthouse Cleverdale Brigitte Taylor

Firstly, I aimed for a budget/ cheap self catering trip.
And that’s exactly what it was. No frills..in a fairly shabby very old colonial house.. Very close ( 20 seconds walk across a small road onto a derelict car par park or where a house once was’ then onto the beach which was closed due to sewer problems and workman laying a new large sewer pipe out to Sea. Bridgett did tell me on WhatsApp discussions before I flew it was sorted and open. She openly lied. It wasn’t and it stank ! Let me tell you that lying in bed with the smell of Sh*t wafting through the house is not pleasant at all. Good kitchen amenities and rooms are clean, some bigger than others.. we moved into a larger room whilst there when a solo guest departed to stay at the Hilton ( that tells you something ?) all beaches up the west coast are easily reachable by a succession of small bus taxis that sound their horns pick you up for $2 bajan dollars and take you pretty much as far as you want to go.. bridge town and beyond...they’re great.
Outside the house there are a group of approx 8-9 hens and 4-5 Cockerals or roosters for our American friends ! Which “ go off “ one after the other from about 3am - 9am right outside the rooms!!! Believe me if I had had a gun!!!! 🤬
I also agree with the previous reviewer about the “unsavoury” group of guys hanging around by the trees across from the house.. they’re friendly and no risk at all ffs get a life and talk to people say hello ! There were a few very poor people who came up to the steps by the verander and asked for money or a ciggerette , again harmless and polite..
Bridgett has some health issues and is slightly neurotic, and did lie to me about the sewer works...would I stay here again?.... NO..however if all you want is a very cheap bed for the night with no frills , self catering in a shabby , old authentic Bajan colonial house then go for it... but make sure the sewer works are finished, and the roosters are dead!!!! 🤣🤣
On a positive note if you looking for a great day trip I recommend the Tiami Catamaran trip up the west coast from Bridgetown! Great fun!!

I am very concerned that guest can write any reviews which are mainly lies and management who was telling the truth are accused of being liars. The company doesn’t take off those wrong reviews and make us look like the worst. My suggestion would be that guest who read reviews should know that the owners of places can be as nice and truthful as possible, provide a reasonable and fair priced accommodation in a good location are still accused to provide a bad accommodation. Some guest even try to blackmail us owners if we don’t give them what they ask for. Vacation-rental business is the hardest these days. In this case the person who made this review was drunk every day from morning till night. The police called me as he was fighting on the road with his son on their departure day. I stopped the police from picking up the man and charge him so he could leave the Island. I ask a taxi friend to take him to the airport as taxi drivers usually doesn’t drive drunk guests anywhere. God bless that many guests have make reviews before so future guest would know that the accommodation is nice and well located. This man might had the wrong expectation or was just too drunk to understand. Yes, they are roasters in Barbados like everywhere in the world. The beaches are allowed to use for everybody and locals are use them and hang out there as well at times. There are no private beaches in Barbados and locals and visitors enjoy them. Therefor you will see locals on the beaches. Guest from all over the world have made friends with locals as the Bajans are very nice people. There is a property opposite the house which was used from the workers of the sewage as car park at his visiting time. Yes, sometimes there was a smell from the sewage on the road but not in my house. I am sorry for that but it is not my fault when the Government do work without our knowledge. Anyhow I didn’t lie when I told the guests that the beach would be open. I just told the man what the Government told us accommodation owners. Yes, the beach was closed longer than expected but I couldn’t know in advance. The beach is open since Christmas 2018 and there is no more smell God bless that many guests have make reviews before so future guest would know that the accommodation is nice and well located. This was our first stay at this location and it was just what we needed. We travelled with my in-laws, 92 and 94, and they were able to get in and out of the ocean with some assistance there. Turtles always swimming between the beach and the reef. Swimming is very safe. The accommodation worked very well for us. The kitchen is well-equipped so we cooked most of our meals there. Places to eat and grocery stores are an easy walk away, and the bus is just around the corner - for $1US ($2 barbados) you can ride either way. The apartment is very clean. The studio apartments were rented out separatel and we were happy to meet our housemates.Air conditioners in the room are available for an extra $10 per night. Very worth it!! We met the locals who frequent the beach area in front of the house and they were always so friendly and welcoming. Chairs and umbrellas can be rented right there as well.

Dear Ingrid. Thanks for your review. Yes, I did really think that the beach and ocean at this house would be closer and safer for your in-laws. That was the reason I had recommended to you beach guesthouse Cleverdale even that you used to stay at one of my other places. I hope everybody is well. See you next time in lovely Barbados. Let's start right at the beginning. The photo's in various promotional sites do not show the "big" picture. The beach is quite close but you have to walk over the foundation of a demolished house and past several unsavoury beach types, who seem to sit and laze about all day, to get to the beach. The beach was average on good days and for 3 days in a row it was closed due to the sewage problem in the area. The house itself is quite old and badly in need of some repairs to the furnishings and bathrooms. The couch in the living room was so old, uncomfortable and dirty that we were hesitant to sit on it. The toilets are in need of replacement as we had repairs done twice during our stay. The coffee maker was totally inoperable and after much discussion with the manager, a substitute was provided. The kitchen, while adequately equipped, lacked one single sharp knife. My own folding hunting knife has utilized all week. Air conditioning is an extra cost over the posted price at a rate of $10 USD per bedroom per night. An essential comfort available only if you pay extra. We were initially told that the water from the taps was drinkable, however after the beach closure and 3 of us becoming very sick, we were advised to buy our water, another cost. The one saving grace throughout all this was the Housekeeper, Barbara, who worked tirelessly and unobtrusively to keep all three units clean. She is an amazing person who doubly earns every cent she is paid. Thank you for everything you did for us Barbara. So the rating I give this particular accommodation is "average" and I feel that is being generous. We will not return to this "Beach House"

Dear Sir, Thanks for your review. Let me also start at the beginning. All websites have a large text stating that the house has ocean view from the veranda of the house to the opposite beach. Nobody had ever thought, wrote or told us that they saw my advertisement different. The photos of the ocean view are made from the veranda of our house. They are not faked. We can’t control if there are lazy locals on the beach. We don’t own the Island. We are all guests to this Island and should accept the local people. Anyhow if you didn’t read the text and expected to be in front of the ocean than I am sorry but that is not my fault. In any case if you have researched the rates at houses in ocean front in our favorite location you would have noticed that they charge double and triple then what I charge for my 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house…………. Yes, Barbados had a break down because of the sewage problem they had. The beach was closed for security until the water test came back from overseas. This was done to make sure that all guests are save when bathing. There are 5 beaches in walking distance of maximum 10 minutes’ walk which were not closed. Therefore there were beaches available to bath.. I can’t take responsibility or are to blame if beaches shut down for security. All my guests and they were thousands of them have always told me and wrote it all over the Internet that our 2 beaches right by our house are the most beautiful beaches they have seen on the Island. The pictures and the description of the house all over the Internet showing that the house is an old colonial style house. I spend every year between 20,000.00 – 30,000.00 BDS in repairs and maintenance into this house. All toilets were changed in the last 5 years. By using the toilet constantly they sometimes does need new parts to be replaced. Therefore yes we have to let a plumber fix the toilets and I assume you understand that parts break down. The furniture must be all made from solid wood because of the closeness to the ocean and get paint regularly. Unfortunately you can’t buy much solid wood anymore and so I keep repairing the old wood and paint it. The salt of the sea is eating the paint away in a short time. Anyhow the complete inside of the house was painted 5 months ago which was before you came. The wear and tear of guest using the house makes it impossible to keep the house like a star accommodation which charges 500 US a night and not as little as I charge. I am sorry but I was taking sick from one day to the other and had to go for surgery for 2 months overseas and thought that the lady who managed the place for me would have done her job. She has access to my stored equipment like coffee maker and else. I can’t understand why it should have been a big discussion about a broke down coffee maker. This had never happen in the past. I do have my phone with me even at surgery and any guest can whatsapp me at any time. Some guest who missed me did call me. If you had a problem you could have called me to free of charge. Anyhow in November just before I had left I have put in the 3 bedroom house 2 sharp knives and in each apartment as I get them from Germany. I hate myself not to find a sharp knife when I stay anywhere and always make sure that I check all kitchen utilities 5 times a year. Somebody must had taken them maybe because they was so good. I have to apology for the state of the settee. The guests came and left back and back. As I understand Barbara the maid forget to send the settee covers early in the morning to the washing on your arrival day. Additionally the guests before you had tear up the settee covers. Even that I told the person in charge to get new covers to put on she didn’t. I am very sorry for that. I did tell her where they are stored and was myself chocked when I saw it after my arrival. I then had the covers fixed right away. Unfortunately we do have to charge for air-conditioning separate as most guests don’t want or like AC, especially all our European guest. AC cost of electricity is very high in Barbados and maintenance of the AC units is 250 BDS per unit which we have to do twice a year. Other places who include the AC in their rates charging 100 US and more per night for a 3 bedroom house. You wouldn’t see it as an extra charge but pay much more for the same type of house. I have and you can see those places if you search the Internet as well. As all online direct booking companies take reservation fees which are pretty high we try to avoid additional fees taken by those companies from the guest. The companies charge fees in percentage of the amount of the cost of the accommodations in these days. We just try for the best of all customers to be fair. So guests who want AC have to pay for it. This is mentioned in all websites in the Internet in the description as well. I have guests writing in tripadvisor and else all about in the Internet very good reviews about my house and apartments on that property. I never had any bad review like from you. Maybe you had expected for the low rate a higher class accommodation. I wish you all the best and I am sorry for any inconvenience caused. Brigitte Taylor
