We have come here every year for 5 years now, and we finally had time to stay for 2 weeks. We have been dreaming about it since February and when we arrived, it was exactly what we dreamed about. Friendly, relaxing, comfortable, clean.
We get daily consultation about which site to visit for snorkeling and every day has been “the best”. Bianca seems to know every site and her weather judgement is excellent. The wind has been quite high the last two years during our visits and she helps to steer us to places that will be more pleasant. Staying here is better than a resort because of the very low-key but personal attention and care lavished upon us.
We have so far failed to stump Bianca and Peter about fish we have seen. They always know and can turn right to the page to prove it. Peter also provides technical pointers on taking good photos and editing to improve them.
The solar-heated hot water never runs out. The dogs are nice but not overwhelming, and there’s fruit and hot breakfast every day, if you want it. Each day when we leave to explore, we return to a freshly tidied room.
We don’t want to go back home!
This was my 2nd stay at Villa Safir. I had previously visited 5 years ago and my wife and I are happy to report that it’s just as wonderful as we had remembered. In both cases we stayed for a week.
The owners, Bianca and Peter, are welcoming. They take pride in helping you make the most of Bonaire. They answered our questions and provided us with recommendations for dive sites, flamingo sightings, national park, shopping, other activities, and restaurants.
We had delicious homemade breakfasts to start our day with ease. Fresh fruit and yogurt were also available each morning. A fridge was available in the shared space for guest use (which we took advantage of after shopping at a local market).
We initially selected Villa Safir because it's a 3 room B&B and we were not looking for a large, crowded, noisy hotel. We enjoyed having our privacy yet we had access to shared areas to hang out or chat with the owners. They also provide access to fabulous resource books on the 80+ dive sites on Bonaire, extensive birding, and island information.
We stayed in the Flamingo room both times. It was clean, comfortable, and quiet. With a strong wifi signal, American/Canadian-friendly electrical outlets, and in-room safe, it met all of our key requirements.
Since the main attraction of Bonaire is scuba diving, we found Villa Safir’s rinse tanks and gear lockers extremely convenient. When we returned from dives, we simply rinsed and hung our gear in the locker to drip dry. They also offer a diver package featuring unlimited tanks and they co-own a local dive shop for any gear rental or guided dives. Finally, all of their packages include a car rental which we liked as it simplified our vacation planning.
All in all, we had a truly enjoyable stay and highly recommend Villa Safir.
It has been 2 months since our stay at Villa Safir. Wishing I could go back tomorrow. Bianca and Peter are naturals at making you feel relaxed and at home in their Villa. They own the dive shop Divocean so we dove with them many times. I would say Peter and Bianca can lead dive trips for the most experienced and me who needs a little help entering the sometime rocky dive entrances. Breakfast with Bianca was always perfect and never rushed. The view from the common area of the Villa boasts perfect views of the ocean and Klein Bonaire. There was no need to use the AC in our room since the rooms have great cross ventilation making for the most comfortable nights sleep.
There is not much more that can be said that others have not already mentioned. Stay here if you are a diver, every morning at our customized breakfast, Bianca provided a briefing for any dive site we wanted to try; how to get there, where to get into the water, diving tips. We were beginning shore divers, this was critical to our success! She also is a great cook as we discovered with our one night dinner package! Meticulously attention to details for our room and our needs. Great Dive Shop and both Peter and Bianca are excellent divers. Add on a night dive, awesome! BTW Bonaire has some great restaurants too.
The best compliment I can give is that my wife and I have been to Bonaire twice and stayed at Villa Safir both times. Villa Safir is a small bed and breakfast on a hill overlooking kralendijk. It's a 10 minute drive from town. The owners, Peter and Bianca, know the island's nooks and crannies and help each guest tailor their experience, whether for scuba diving, snorkeling, dining, or other activities. They also own a dive shop, Div'Ocean, which means you can plan an entire snorkel and dive vacation with them if you choose. Villa Safir has several different packages that include your room and activities at very competitive rates, and the packages include car rental, which is essential for getting around Bonaire. Bianca tends to the B&B and Peter tends to the dive shop. Both provide personal attention to their customers. Bianca cooks each person's breakfast of choice between 7-10 AM every morning. Peter is a great scuba guide and instructor. My wife and I got our open water diver certification with him. He was very patient and tailored the program to my wife who was having trouble getting the hang of it. He spent extra time with her and modified the training to her needs, and she succeeded in getting certified. This is not the kind of attention that customers typically receive from dive resorts where one instructor has many students at a time.
