4 nights at Peace Laguna Resort in Sep'20. We stayed in the main building and not the villas.
Booking (+) good experience, online booking, different room types and meal packages, all straightforward and fast
Transportation (+-): the hotel offers airport transfer for 800 THB which is absolutely unnecessary; it was easy to get a van from the airport to the hotel for 600 THB right on arrival.
Location (+): about 7 min walk from the beach, close to a lot of eateries in all pricee ranges, 7-11 and tourist shops
Checkin (+-): the hotel verified the checkin time via email, we had to fill in paper forms on check-in; the receptionist offered help with the luggage, but since the help was the same little receptionist lady for all of our 4 suitcases, we hauled them ourselves; the elevator hardly fits 4 people, let alone the luggage
Room (+-): somewhat tired but spacious, clean, except we had to ask to replace a few dirty linens; mattress quality is acceptable, although a spring was sticking out from the mattress in one of the rooms we were assigned; shampoo and gel provided by the hotel were of terrible quality, we had to buy our own, the water drains very slowly from the shower and overflows onto the bathroom floor easily. The kids had an adjacent room, but the rooms were not connecting. The sound isolation leaves better to be desired, the noises of a loud party at another hotel next door easily woke us up in the morning.
Facilities (+-): pretty much everything was closed due to the lack of guests, so we only checked out a pool a few times. The pool is good, with a great view across the lagoon but very small.
Food (+-): we only tried breakfast, which was OK; if you are not content to eat the same stuff every day, look elsewhere. It includes a choice of fried rice or fried noodles, eggs (boiled or omelette), some cold cuts, chicken sausage or bacon, 3 small pieces of fruit and a drink. The food was fully Westernized which was OK for us (unfortunately 3 years if living in Thailand made me decide I did not like spicy...). Lots of tiny ants were crawling over all the tables and were not about to give up, so humans and the rest of the nature were forced to co-exist for breakfast.
Service (+) the room was cleaned well every day, the service in the restaurant was attentive, we did not have any special needs so all was fine on this front.
Hotel rules (---): just ridiculous. They would give you only 1 room key (which will keep failing as the locks are old or whatever), if you want to get a second key, you have to deposit 500 THB. I do not really feel welcome at a hotel which requires me to make a deposit for a key.
Checkout: TBS, as we will only leave in a couple of days.
Value (+-): we got 2 rooms for about 50$ each so I would say it is a fair price for what you get. Would I stay here again? I do not know. 5-star hotels in Krabi (where we would usually stay) have rooms going now for about US$ 100-130 but the value of those properties is greatly diminished now since many of their facilities (gyms, tennis courts, etc.) are either closed or have severely reduced hours. When they reopen, we will go back to Sofitel and Centara.
This was the nicest hotel we stayed at during our whole time in Thailand, and yet it was probably our worst experience. To start with the good things:
--Good location (right near the beach and the main drag, but set off so not too loud)
In terms of the bad things, there was nothing hugely horrible, but just so many small things that were slightly off that added up.
--The absolute worst thing was they forgot to pick us up at the airport. We requested a pick up with 2 emails, never heard from them, and they never came to get us. We waited 30 minutes. I was shocked. Their apology was to offer a 300 baht discount on the return transfer to the airport, which is ridiculous. at a hotel this nice, a forgotten pick up is a huge deal, and the concession should have been greater
--The food is pretty bad
--The gym is open from 9am to 7pm which is helpful for basically no one
--The shower door didn't close so water leaked all over the bathroom
--The room was large but weirdly empty and kind of sad
--Did not do a great job cleaning the room
I could go on, but don't want to be annoying. I had such high hopes for this place based on the pictures, but it sadly did not meet my expectations. The only light amongst it all was Bev, one of the front desk people. She was extremely friendly and helpful. Bev, if you're reading this: Start your own hotel! I know it will be a roaring success!
Good services, food taste is ok, room is wide, comfort, nice, clean, quite, got facilities (gym, spa,kid corner, swimming pool), suitable for spent family time, recommended, nearby the location, so many shop, sell the souveniers, food, night market
Just spent 3 weeks at peace laguna in a cottage . The room was large and very clean and tidy but a bit dated and tired . The bed is probably the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on , they changed the mattress but it was just as bad unfortunately. Pools are all very clean but get busy very quickly with the usual reserving of sunbeds etc . Grounds are tidy but very badly lit at night . The breakfast is reasonable with a good choice . Gym and Spa are very good . Staff are very helpful and try their best . There is building work going on all around the hotel so no peace during the day at all . The path to the beach is now shut so you have to walk to the beach via the Main Street .
We stayed at this hotel during what i believe is off peak season (Mid august). We got a room via Expedia at a discounted rate and it was above my expectation! The rooms are quite spacious and clean. Our room was located on the end near the bars so we could hear the music very faintly from inside the room but it didn't bother us at all. (maybe ask for a room away from this is your a super light sleeper)
We travelled with two kids and the room and bed (king) was large enough for all of us! The resort itself is in such a great location. The view is beautiful, background of greenery and large rocky deposits which provides a serene and peaceful environment. The breakfast buffet offered a great variety. The pools are great too, they have an adjacent kids pool which was so convenient for us (we only made it to two of the three available pools)
A special mention to Kim who was always a friendly face to see around and gave us great advice and tips and made us feel very welcomed! But overall, all the staff are great!
You really can't go wrong with this hotel, it provides a great peaceful environment without being completely cut off from everything as they still provide wifi in the rooms. I think this is a great hotel for both families as well as couples/singles as your quite close to the bars (if thats your scene), surrounded by shopping stalls and a large variety of eating options and walking distance to the beach. They also have a functional gym with a bunch of free weights, a couple of 4 in 1 style cable machines and a treadmill & bike.
Thanks Peace Laguna Resort and we will see you again!
