Les Vallees is a wonderful place to stay with a family. We spent one night here en route from the South of France to Calais. The house is set in the most stunning surroundings and there was plenty of room in our apartment and in the garden for us all to stretch our legs and relax after a long drive. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and Margaret cooked a delicious meal for us and a different, but equally well-received meal for the children. After dinner, we were able to relax in the garden with a glass of wine, while the children enjoyed the beautiful gardens. The breakfast was also very generous and perfect before continuing our journey. The B&B is about 30 mins from the motorway, but it is well worth the extra miles.
At very short notice a friend and myself decided on a trip to this part of France on our motorcycles. We found Les Vallees on the internet and booked our accommodation via e-mail with ease. A few days later we arrived at Les Vallees and were delighted to discover that it was situated in a truly beautiful setting, being situated on the slope of one side of a valley and looking out across to the other side of the valley.
We were given a very warm welcome, and cold beers, by Richard and Margaret. We were shown to accommodation which turned out to be a first floor apartment with two twin bedrooms. It also had a lounge, kitchenette, W.C. and a shower room. All of the rooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortably and nicely furnished. The view from the lounge window was out across the valley and was sublime.
We had booked for an evening meal for our first night only, because we didn't know what our plans were for the next two nights. Our meals consisted of three courses and were beautifully presented and were delicious. Whilst eating we were plied with wine by Richard. The meal was so good that we decided that we would also eat at Les Vallees for the remaining two evenings. Slept very well that night and the subsequent ones as well.
Breakfast was no let down either with much choice on offer. We ate more for breakfast than we normally would have at home and to be honest didn't feel the need to have much if anything for lunch whilst out on the bikes during the day, especially with another quality evening meal to look forward to. Those next two dinners didn't disappoint either.
As is the case on these trips the time went too quickly and it was soon time to leave. Thank you to Richard and Margaret for being such generous and friendly hosts. I'm sure that we will return to Les Vallees but the cat is out of the bag now as our wives have seen the photographs and we'll have to take them and travel by car next time!
This place is so good we stayed both on route for our family holiday and on the way back!
Les Vallees is a beautiful set of buildings surrounded by idyllic French countryside with gardens that the kids loved to roam after being cooped up in the car for 8hrs.
The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean, with great facilities in your room including fridge and coffee machine for those staying a bit longer. The beds are uber comfy and were just what was needed after 450 miles of driving.
Margaret's 3 course evening meals on both occasions were superb and were topped off nicely with generous amounts of wine and a great cup of Richard's coffee. Breakfasts were fresh and plentiful, with Richard's poached eggs touching on perfection... I need some tips on my next trip.
Everything about this wonderful place and its warm hosts makes you want to plan all your trips to France with a detour via Saint Martine-De-Connee.
Hopefully we'll return in 2015 for a repeat visit to this wonderful gem of a French country retreat.
This year saw our second (& third) visits to Les Vallees, having stayed there in 2012 on our way to Bordeaux, returning to stay with Margaret and Richard played a large part in our decision to holiday in France again this year such was the incredible hospitality we received previously.
The accommodation is spacious and immaculately kept, we have had a 2 bedroom family apartment on all of our stays and have found it to be like a home from home.
The hosts immediately make you feel welcome, and will do all they can during your stay to ensure you are relaxed and content, including opening up the jacuzzi for our kids and even arranging an early dinner (home-made chicken goujons) for them so we could relax at dinner later with a glass of wine while enjoying the most amazing home cooked food.
Breakfast has all you could want from locally produced butter, honey and milk from the farm, to fresh cooked freshly laid eggs, as well as the staple French goodies such as croissant & pain-au-chocolate, and if that doesn't wake you up then Richards wonderful fresh coffee will do!
The atmosphere here is incredibly relaxing and peaceful, it made winding down on our outward journey very simple, and it was a fantastic way to finish of our family holiday after 2 weeks camping on Ile de Re.
Richard & Margaret are the most accommodating of hosts, who will do all they can to ensure you are happy but at the same time will give you sufficient space and freedom so you don't feel like you are in someone else's home.
Richard happily entertained our 6yr old and Margaret cuddled our 3yr old so we could enjoy our desserts (& second dessert in my case!)
We couldn't recommend Les Vallees highly enough, this review simply doesn't do it credit, the best way is to stay there and see what all the 5 star reviewers are talking about.
We had a great one-night stopover at Les Vallees on our way to the Charente recently. It was close enough to the motorway to be convenient but in a lovely rural setting with stunning views. The accommodation was perfect for us - we had a little apartment with sitting room/kitchen and two upstairs bedrooms - so we were able to put the children to bed and then sit up for a bit ourselves. We would definitely recommend booking a meal. We did so mainly for convenience but it turned out to be the best meal we had throughout our two week holiday.
