It really pains me to write this review as I stayed exactly 2 years ago and it was such a nice experience. Check- in was great:reception staff were as nice as before. Room was really clean and comfy, so no issues there. The problems started with the bar and restaurant. I was given an ice bucket at reception for our bubbles as it was my husbands birthday and I was trying to make it special. I was told to request more ice when I needed it. I went to the bar to do so and was told I shouldn't have an ice bucket. The Scouse guy behind the bar waved a small cardboard tub at me saying I should have been given that. A - Not sure how a bottle would fit in there and B - When the ice started to melt, it might have been tricky. I explained it might be worth talking to reception about it not to me. Thankfully he gave me back the bucket, but I felt a bit peeved by his attitude. If it was part of the Covid rules then I have no problem, it was more his attitude that got to me. We turned up for dinner and waited a while to be seated, but it was fine things are trickier with the whole Covid thing. Same guy in restaurant - great. Things went smooth enough to start. Burger was great, chips and sides were cold but we just didn't want to fuss knowing what we were up against with the guy. It was 850 and as he took our plates he asks if we want anything else as kitchen is away to close. Restaurant is open till 10 with last orders going in at 9 it says and i'm assuming if you ordered your mains at 9 you wouldn't have to decide on dessert before you had even eaten? I was a bit confused but said I would like dessert and his reply was yes if you order quickly!! I let it wash over me, but inside I was really miffed. We haven't been anywhere like a lot of people since the beginning of the year and this was supposed to be a special treat for us, but I left feeling really annoyed. When my husband went out for a vape earlier someone had been loudly making a complaint to the same guy. His demeanour and attitude is just not suited to hospitality and I don't want to get too personal so i'll leave it there, but it's totally put me off coming back. We had booked this hotel again as it was great the last time and we really wanted a swim. Despite calling 3 days in advance like I was told to do the pool was actually fully booked due to family sessions which I didn't know about. It's no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but perhaps giving residents the opportunity to book a slot upon booking a room would be fair, given for many this is the reason they are booking the hotel and spending money there?

Not sure where to start. Checked in which was OK, bit of a queue but understand it was a busy time. Once checked in, looked at the notice on the desk in the room which advises that the pool, facilities etc are closed. We didn't have much time before dinner so started getting ready. Got served our starters which were fine, but not worth what they charge! Main course i had steak frites, about a third of the steak was inedible. The guy who served us (im guessing from Liverpool by his accent) asked if everything was ok..I said no the steak was terrible...to which he replied "well you should have told us when you started eating it". I explained that it started off fine so didn't have a need to say anything. He then said it happened the week before and its how they cut the meat..my partner then asked why they are serving the same as last week to which he replied "well I'm not the chef". Absolutely appalling attitude from him. Spoke to reception who were really nice and listened to what I said. But will not be staying here again if the food is that bad and it has staff that have terrible customer service like that!

Stayed here as a couple mid September. The hotel was very quiet as was the surrounding area. Room was lovely. Comfy big bed, plenty thick towels, great shower over a bath. Tv was ok, took a while to switch in. Close to other areas by car. There was a Starbucks within the hotel however I only seen it open once. Breakfast was terrible so avoid if you can. Food was cold and not of good quality. On our second morning I stuck to a continental breakfast. Avoid the cost of breakfast if you can. We did not eat at the Bar & Grill, we felt it was overpriced and not of a great choice. Parking was £5 per 24 hrs except weekends.

Difficult to know where to start.
Could not add the £40 dining credit for £30 after booking. Tried on the app and it involuntarily checked us in which we were not aware of.
Turned up to mass confusion as reception insisted we were already checked in. Resulted in long wait while someone went to room to physically check we were not already in the room. Pretty embarrassing as my wife was simply not believed she was not checked in.
Booked dinner for 4, (parents joining) really not impressed with the paying upfront arrangement.
It took 2hours to serve four of them 1 main course.
Had to get up from our seats several times to get staff members with every request we had ( mainly where is our food).
They forgot our child’s ice cream. After 20mins someone finally passed and noticed and said they would get it, then 10 more minutes later, we have to get up AGAIN to remind them and. Finally it arrived. It was literally a tub of ice cream that required ZERO preparation and it was not the flavour we requested. We were so exhausted by the constant chasing up, we just accepted it. I did feel for the staff as it’s simply mis management here are there were not enough staff for the number of covers.
I booked this for my wife and daughter to have a relaxing night away and specifically paid (ok it’s not a lot of money but which other hotel chains pay to use the gym and pool? That’s right NONE) for the pool use. Either way the entire trip was so they could have a nice meal and use the pool. They arrived and for the first time we were advised that the pool slots needed to be pre booked and there were none available. We could have pre booked it a week earlier but had no idea. Luckily the leisure centre girls was great and managed to keep in touch and got them into a slot that someone else’s failed to turn up for. All pretty much easily solvable issues with better management but overall the stay was pretty disastrous.

Totally accept that visiting a hotel is very different at this time. The hotel has put great measures in to keep things hygienic and there are reminders every where for social distancing which is great. The room although very clinical was clean and comfortable, however the food and service was abysmal. Hardly any staff in the evening, food was cold, burgers were like rubber and the chicken was totally overcooked. Breakfast was awful, one chef running around doing everything and serving because no buffet, he then refused to serve past 9.30am even though breakfast was due to finish at 10am. Another member of staff like a bull in a china shop battering around the dining room clearing up and then dragging noisy trolleys through. Be careful, before check out as the hotel automatically charges your credit card without checking. In normal circumstances the hotel might be better.

Do they have to booking restaurant in midweek ? Club room what this ?
Answer from eccles90

They have a restaurant but not particularly busy so would not think it’s essential to book. The club room is an upgraded room which also gives free access to the pool and leisure facilities (£5 per night otherwise) club rooms also benefit from SKY tv better bed and a fancy coffee machine. Bathrooms also better and think rooms are slightly larger. If planning a stay during winter if you have a small blow air heater take it with you just in case, it wasn’t just me complaining about heating or lack of it. Bathroom towel rail is decorative only, it is not connected to anything. Sorry if this is to late I hadn’t noticed request.
