This hotel is unbelievable- it is in a time warp of about 50 years ago and everything is dated and shabby. My single room was freezing as the radiator was not working (electric heater provided the following day) - the bed head was against the window, the mattress was very weird (although surprisingly comfortable) - the door closed and locked automatically as also did the nearby bathroom door so you had to be careful not to leave the room without your key - seemed an obsession with security in a tranquil place like Oban. The bathroom had no shower, just a bath and looked very tired.
Surprisingly the hotel had a swimming pool and the pool itself was lovely - quite large, clean and a nice temperature. However, this was spoilt by the creepy surroundings! There was one shower and to operate it you had to hold a ‘loo’ chain constantly- let go and the water turned off!
Breakfast was plentiful and very good with a lovely lady serving - quite a bonus!
Judging from previous reviews, the room prices seem to vary enormously- I got a good deal so was not too upset by the surroundings.
It is amazing - and sad- that this hotel, which is in a beautiful location with stunning views across Oban bay has been allowed to deteriorate so much - it could be lovely - but in the meantime, avoid unless you get a really good deal!!

Stopped as couple with 2 dogs we had a nice stay staff were helpful and friendly, hotel needs a refurbishment tired and dated decor. The bathroom in our room left a lot to be desired a tiny shower cubicle in a cupboard. This hotel has really good facilities e.g. pool but dated look spoils it. We ate in hotel once and were very disappointed with quality of food fortunately breakfast was a big improvement.

This hotel needs totally cleared and refurbished. Bedroom was filthy and bathroom was DIY disaster. TV was old and didn’t work. Furniture needed thrown out and staircase an accident waiting to happen. Never went to pool etc as after seeing state of hotel gave it a swerve. They will not refund your money either and take no notice of complaints many people complained but were just ignored

We stayed at the Lancaster as a family, the staff were all very nice and polite, it's easy enough to check in and park up. The location is ideal, only two minutes on foot in to the heart of oban or stay where you are looking over the bay.
The breakfast was simple but cooked excellently, the continental breakfast could do with a couple more options for those that like that sort of start to the day.
Decor is dated, but characteristic of the building and area.
The pool area is usable, we went in a couple of times and it's fine.
Pool tables are available to use at no extra cost.
All in all it was pleasant.
