This is a must try. Behind the typical red brick, you will find a hidden paradise. Detailed oriented the service is first class. We booked two rooms for 4 people, you can as well access an open swimming pool, a rare amenity in France.
The building is fascinating and a fine example of french art deco architecture. It has been restored to a very high standard with a great attention to detail and some fine modern lighting that complements the original style. Our room was very comfortable with a luxurious and large bed and bathroom. The owners are friendly and ensured we had a very enjoyable stay. The breakfast was also excellent. The garden and pool also looked inviting even in winter. A special place.
Lovely B&B for a short stay. The swimming pool is what decided us for this property. The garden is also pleasant. However the breakfast is expensive (15 Euros pp) given that there are few choices and no hot options.
Also be aware that you cannot check in until 4 pm as this is the owner’s time off so they might be away from the premises. We were lucky that we did get someone in as we hadn't read the small print carefully enough, although we had to go away until 4 pm after we stored our luggage. Also we missed the fact that there is no AC at this property. So, with the windows open it can be noisy because of traffic.
We enjoyed a lovely night in the family suite as part of our journey through Europe. We loved the suite, which was perfect for us with our mature 10 and 14 year old daughters but would have been a challenge with kids needing more attention at bedtime and/or throughout the night. The second bedroom is a loft up steep stairs that we were thankful to have to navigate only a few times.
Stephanie recommended a terrific restaurant (Jour de Peche) for us and prepared a lovely breakfast display for the whole family. Breakfast included a delicious local yogurt that was one of our favorite culinary treats of our trip.
We were sorry he weather didn't allow us to enjoy the pool!
Between Stephanie's English and our French, we really struggled to communicate, but the limited interaction we required made it just fine.
We visited Lille last weekend and stayed in La maison Carree. We enjoyed it very much. The service very friendly and helpful. We felt right at home. The room and bathroom we're very clean and spacious. The breakfast was great! Fresh bread, juice and cheese every day. Don't forget the pool! Very relaxing after a day of sight seeing. La maison carree made our visit to Lille complete.
