This May, we stayed four nights at the Au Couer du Jardin and would highly recommend it.
The CduJ has three rental accommodations, all of which are situated behind the main house, in a walled garden area (entry is through a enclosed portico which opens directly into the garden). We stayed in the house at the back of the property; the other two accommodations/studio apartments are in a separate building, closer to the main house.
Our accommodation was spread over two floors: the very spacious living, dining and kitchen areas are all on the main floor, together with a master bedroom and the shower room. Upstairs was a second master bedroom, plus a double bed on a landing area. As we were a couple, we only used the main floor space.
The house has been fully modernized and tastefully decorated: it proved to be quite comfortable. There are large floor-to-ceiling east facing windows which provide excellent light into the main living area. While there are no drapes on these windows, the space faces the garden and is completely private to any neighboring properties as well as to the other rental accommodations. The house is equally isolated from city noises and felt quite secure.
The main floor bedroom was spacious, with a comfortable queen bed. The washroom (shower, sink and wc) was also excellent, incorporating a large open shower, good counter space and plentiful hot water. The kitchen was equipped for simple meal preparations; to note, there is a fridge, sink, counter top hob & a microwave but no oven. The wifi is excellent and supported streaming.
Our hosts, Helen & Jean-Pierre, were most welcoming and helpful. Their English was good. The entire reservation, arrival and departure process went smoothly.
The CduJ is close to the main tourist areas of Lille, without being in the fray. Place du General de Gaulle is about a 20 minute walk through mostly pedestrianised areas. The streets around CduD are safe with good lighting. Street parking was readily available. Food stores and a boulangerie are close by. For dinner one evening we went to La Consigne, a five minute walk to the east: also highly recommended.
