The residence is located on a hill just a short walk from a great beach, a bit away from the port. The main port is about a 15 minute walk. A perfect location for swimming, as the water was not full of pollution. The room had a beautiful balcony with lounge chairs and a table. Although this town is not in one of the main cinque terre towns, I felt the town was more colorful and had more character than any of the cinque terre towns. At the port you can easily buy a pass to board a boat and visit the cinque terre towns. The boat leaves just about every hour. This is the PERFECT location for relaxing, sight seeing and relaxing. Just an FYI bring extra soap products. Only a small bar of soap is provided. The wifi also was not consistent and worked better in corridor, but in the end, a vaca is about relaxing :)
The view from our balcony was amazing and the room had everything you need if you want to stay in and cook or entertain. It also had a washing machine and clothes lines to clean your clothes if you have been traveling for a long time and need to clean your clothes. The walk to downtown is a little long but really not that bad once you do it a couple times. Very clean room with everything a traveller needs!
Immaculate Euro appointments. Aesthetics are wonderful. CLEAN bathrooms, full showers, HOT water on demand. Impressive location. 10/10 w/o reproach. Great for business minded travelers that don't need 5000sq ft of room to visit but relax. Awesome!
This is a lovely modern apartment, with good cooking facilities, lounge area, and bedroom facing onto a beautiful balcony with great views over 'gulf of poets'. Undercover parking and close to bus stop. Some beaches nearby or a nice 1km walk into Portovenere.
Wonderful old couple run the residence - 8 apartments in all (?) They speak hardly a word of English, but a bit of miming and plenty of laughs gets the message across.
We ate in most days but plenty of restaurants in Portovenere. Great base for exploring cinque terre by catching a boat from the harbour.
Our family of 4 (kids ages 10 & 12) recently spent 3 nights at Residence I Gabbiani. The owners are very lovely people even though we didn't speak Italien we tried our best to communicate and they gave us a bottle of wine and some treats for the kids. The apartment was actually 2 adjoining rooms with a front seaside balcony view and a balcony off the back bedroom with no view. The apartment was very big and perfect for our family of 4. The kids slept in the back bedroom and we slept on the drop down bed in the front room. The drop down bed is very comfortable however the pillows are flat and hard. The apartment is very clean and quite basic. It's not fancy at all but is all you need when visiting the area. The kitchen is small and has the basics to make small meals. We really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watching all the fishermen, boats, swimmers and all the action on the water. The kids were entertained for hours. We decided that we had the best view, location in Portovenere. The nicer hotels in town(which we almost booked) don't have the same view as Residence I Gabbiani. The underground parking is a huge bonus too! There is a road directly below the apartments which is a bit noisy at times but is part of the scene when staying in these small sea side towns on the coast of Italy. There is virtually no traffic at night and we had very peaceful, quiet sleeps. The walk into town for groceries or to go out for dinner was very short yet enjoyable. We loved it! We are so happy we stayed here instead of one of the busy Cinque Terre towns. There is so much more to do and see in this town compared to the other towns. We are already talking about our next trip back to Portovenere.
