And without doubt here at CH it does, the hosts are very visible and have clearly worked hard to keep the business alive throughout the Covid period. We stayed there shortly after they re-opened.
Now lets be honest when reviewing any premises I think you have to be fair and base any review against price paid.
Although first impressions had us concerned as there was a lot of rubbish strewn in the car park area and outside the back of the hotel.
The Craven Heifer is promoted as a boutique hotel, its is NOT, it is actually a Pub with cheaply themed rooms, all apparently based on famous “Yorkshire” folk. We stayed in a room called Cabaret which featured pictures of Dame Judy Dench although I am not to sure what she has to do with any Cabaret, I can only comment on this room but assume others are of a similar standard.
The decor and fittings in the room were tired and worn, they might call it Shabby Chic but realistically it was old and worn. Being an old building the En-Suite facilities are an after thought, the Toilet is a macerator which is not ideal, and the shower is electric which needs to be turned on from outside the bathroom, it took us a while to work that out.
We did raise a couple of issues with the Owners, but they were unable to sort them out as they had to wait until their maintenance man was available. Also the local store had run out of Eggs so they were off the breakfast menu.
However we actually enjoyed the hospitality of Gavin the owner, who really tries to please but is a better host than hotelier. The CH is not expensive and therefore guests should not expect it to be 5 star, it is rated as 3 Star and needs a little more attention to detail to even maintain that.
We stayed a night last minute, and had a fantastic time. Food was good with big portions and room was lovely. We went for a walk in the morning and came back later than planned, we called ahead and they accommodated us no bother. We recommend!
Staff here very friendly and welcoming. Rooms are themed. Our room was of a reasonable size with a modern bathroom, although the bath was actually in the bedroom. The mattress I found to be quite hard and I like a firm mattress. There was a huge gap in the head board where pillows could easily slip through. The room was clean. A safe is also available in the room.
Breakfast was good although due to a late delivery some items were missing from the plate. No big deal...there was still enough to eat.
Over all a good visit.
I never write reviews unless somewhere is really impressive or unfortunately in this case, very disappointing.
We booked the delux large room with bathtub as we were staying with our tiny baby and attending a wedding nearby.
The room was dirty. Completely unacceptable even without a baby. We raised the issue with the staff who said they would clean the room however this didn’t happen. We returned after the wedding and had to drive a very long way home late at night because it was not acceptable.
I emailed the hotel giving them an opportunity to apologise and hopefully reimburse us at least something for our inconvenience but had no reply and they did not answer the phone.
Just disappointing, I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else in our situation.
We have just spent a couple of nights here in the ‘Dame Judy Dench’ room and have had a really nice time.
We were staying for a wedding at Bolton Abbey.
From the moment we arrived, Gavin and his staff made us feel really welcome and can’t do enough for your stay.
The room was a nice size, nice and clean and a really comfortable bed
The breakfast was excellent with good quality ingredients and again, nothing was too much trouble.
We ate in the the pub on our second night and both meals were tremendous value for money. Again, good quality ingredients and brilliantly cooked
A friendly bunch who make you welcome, we just need to find another excuse to get up there again.
Some stunning scenery on its doorstep
