My wife and I and our infirm dog, Archibald visited this fantastic location in mid to late August 2019. From start to finish the experience was exceptional. From the initial, very pleasant introductory phone conversation to the sad departure in the early hours of the following Saturdy we felt welcome and at home in Lisle Court.
The house: is a Victorian pile in Victorian style. Still clad in oak panels and featuring interesting pictures and ornaments in every room. The bedroom and bathroom were nipping clean, well appointed and had a view over Wootton Creek to die for. Also, in keeping with the host's thoughtfulness and hospitality, lot of attention has been given to providing for guests who may be compromised by weather conditions: A library; drawing and painting equipment; jig-saws; games; fishing equipment and probably lots more that I didn't spot.
The garden etc: is large, well thought-out and immacculate - which is only to be expected as Eileen lovingly tends it until the bats are forced to navigate around her at dusk. Set on different levels, it drops down to a ramshackle wooden jetty which dips it's toes into the pleasant waters of Wootton Creek.
The Location: is ideal. Depending on traffic it's five to ten minutes drive to Newport, Ryde and Cowes - the biggest towns on the island, and not much longer to the quieter parts. It's also only five minutes from the Portsmouth - Fishbourne car ferry - which incidentally, you can see from the house.
The Host: Eileen is gorgeous: very attentive; extremely hard working; very astute and a kinder person you will struggle to find.
We will return to Lisle Court and when we do we'll be packing a big bunch of flowers.
We stayed here 2 years ago and our 2nd visit was just as enjoyable, if not more so. We were blessed with glorious weather and of course Eileen's perfect style of hospitality. The boathouse down by the creek had been refurbished so we spent an entire day there reading and sunbathing with a bottle of wine. The outdoor pool is an added bonus. The house oozes old style charm and the views from the bedrooms are glorious. Eileen was as always the perfect host and it definitely won't be 2 years before we visit again.
We stayed for a week and using the Accommodation as our base suited us. A very large property with an excellent location. It is a little off the beaten track but well worth the little time it takes to get there. A very warm welcome awaits and you will find the bedroom, bathroom and lounges as comfortable as any you will find on the Island. Certainly the proprietor is very attentive and we would be happy to return.
We came here for the weekend to celebrate our Ruby Wedding as we had spent our honeymoon at Lisle Court when it was a hotel. It was a very happy return as we were made so welcome by Eileen, the owner, and her friendly dog, Max. She gave us a lovely room with a wonderful view. We enjoyed sunbathing in the amazing garden and swam in her pool, which has moved since our first visit. We remembered some features of the house such as the staircase and oak panelling. It was a special celebration and we were delighted to stay here once more and would do so again. We won't be leaving it 40 years this time!
What a fantastic place to stay, set in woodland overlooking Wootton Creek. Built in 1884, this wood panelled Victorian country house is like going back in time but with modern amenities. Eileen and Max the Dog are the perfect hosts, where nothing is too much trouble. You wont find a carton of milk for your room tea facilities but a real jug of milk complete with lace cover. It was hot and sunny when we stayed, so the 2/3 acres of garden, that runs down to the water's edge, were well used for a picnic, as was the swimming pool. Breakfast is served in a wood panelled dining room and was delicious setting you up for the day. The rooms are more than spacious with huge beds along with a huge bathroom. If you want a different place to stay, give it a go!
