Booked one night as somewhere cheap to stay and freshen up for a 1:15 am flight home and wasn't expecting it to be flash. We were given a room on the 1st floor which was pretty ordinary and I think it's because they knew we weren't staying the whole night so they gave us the worst room. Gee I hope it was the worst room. Door lock was wobbly, the plate around it was missing and I reckon one good punch would have knocked it out. No glasses to drink out of, no tissues, timber paneling on cabinets was dodgy and the little door knobs on the cabinet hiding the fridge were about to fall off so I tightened them up. The room and bathroom were clean. There was a phone with a dial tone but no numbers listed anywhere so I found the hotel on line and called reception using my mobile phone to get a couple of glasses but was told he would come up later because he was busy. My wife went down 10 minutes later and he provided 2 wine glasses but gave her 2 normal glasses when she said they weren't suitable. Pool area was nice and the pool looked clean but we didn't use it. The bar area is really just the local pub and is full of locals and tradies. The hotel is in a pretty poor location and to be frank it's seen better days. The land is probably worth more than the building.

We stayed here for two nights last week, Thursday and Friday. After reading the bad reviews on here we were braced for a poor experience. We checked in early which thankfully wasn't a problem but were given the room closest to reception. We were worried but thought we'd take our chances. The room itself was much better than others have described; clean, spacious, air-conditioned and no issues found. The first night was okay, and had this review been based on just this night it would be much better.
When heading out on our second day we asked the front desk staff (a young woman) some simple questions about how to get around the city and to the WWII military museum in East Point. She couldn't even locate the hotel we were staying in on the map and had no idea how to get to East Point. We decided to just get a cab. After a long day out in Darwin, we were kept up from 3 am onward from door slamming from other guests and vacuuming from housekeeping (around 6:30/7 am on Saturday). This really took down our experience. The hotel is attached to a pub/bottle shop which is convenient but has its drawbacks at night. The pool was nice and clean, open until 10 pm. Convenient location, 10 minute walk to city center.

This place isn’t for everyone. If you’ve been in a 5 star “hotel” before, think of this as a 2 star “motel”
Personally I love it. Not sure exactly why but I do.
Maybe it’s because I’ve stayed here so many times that I know what to expect.
Yes it’s old and run down and is popular with blokes who are in Darwin to go fishing and drink beer. Would I take a wife and kids there… probably not. The pool area is just average and facilities in general aren’t great.
For me though…. I get a clean bed, a fridge and kettle, aircon, a bar downstairs and it’s got a funky smell. Perfect!
The only thing that let me down this time was no milk in the fridge for my tea in the morning.
This place is always on the cheaper side of Darwin hotels so you’re getting what you pay for, especially in peak season 👍

Darwin is a hideously expensiveplace to stay and I recently stumbled upon the above hotel after visiting Darwin for work over a 20 year period. For the bucks - approx $100 -120 AUD it is very reasoanable compared to many of the other Darwin hotels. The rooms have recently been renovated - the rooms are spacious , the beds are good ,a desk to work on, good (if smallish) bathroom the TV good with a reasonable choice of programs. Good views depending on which side you are on.It is a short 5 minute stroll to the city centre.Staff are helpful and storage is available. Only beef is you have to pay for internet but can't have everything in this notoriously expensive town. Also a good swimming pool and free car parking.

I've stayed twice at this hotel. The first was in a 'city view' room on level 3. All good. Spacious, clean and quiet. I think I got it a bit cheaper than normal so it was good value for money.
The second time was a few days later in a 'çabana' room next to the pool. This room was in need of a bit of a update with everything appearing to be a bit tired. The bathroom was very small. Had a bit of noise about 10pm with the 'lets throw the screaming drunken girls in the pool" scenario which went on for a while but that was about it. Would only recommend this type of room if you were a smoker wanting to take advantage of being able to go and sit outside you room.
Great view from the rooftop dining area at sunset but like much of this hotels appearance it's a bit tired and could do with a bit of an update. We did hesitate at eating in the restaurant but being too lazy to walk in search of fodder elsewhere we found the food was good/sufficient, given the buffet style from the trusty Bain Marie.
I've stayed in quite a few Darwin Hotels over the years and this is fairly standard of the choice without paying a ridiculous price. The laid back, easy going Territory style can often be used an excuse for poor service and quality in Darwin hotels however after my couple nights stay I'd recommend this place.
Prices given for this hotel varied considerably from site to site so shop around.
