This place was just what we were looking for - great location (everything accessible on foot), spacious (although very old school) rooms, charming old building and great service! The breakfast was very nice also!
Special thanks to the receptionist (I forgot the name) - she was super nice and helpful during the stay, but showed us what "above and beyond" is when it comes to service when she went looking in the room for a stuffed animal one of our kids left in the hotel and the cleaning service did not find it. She did!
Friendly helpful receptionist who spoke very good German and English and gave us a good dinner restaurant recommendation. Walking distance to town. Had no problem parking our motorcycle in the courtyard (100 Kč per day),but as people have mentioned, the entrance is a bit narrow. To get to our room we had to walk up a flight of stairs and go outside over a balcony, which was a bit strange, but the room made up for that:it was very large, with a small hallway and separate bathroom with shower and toilet. There was a fridge and TV. Beds were very comfortable. Light sleepers might be awakened in the early morning by the tram. WiFi was slow. Breakfast buffet was good, only found out later we could have had freshly cooked eggs. Coffee was in thermos flasks on the tables. Olomouc is a lovely old town, with a lot of young people because of the university. One of the nicest towns we visited in the Czech Republic.
You can't fault the location, right in the middle of town, and the breakfast was a pleasant surprise - as well as the standard continental buffet there was the option of freshly cooked eggs - fried with ham or scrambled - served to order.
Our apartment at the front of the building was generous in size but furnishings were a bit basic, and the tramline right outside the window means that a room at the back would have meant a better night's sleep.
If you're travelling by car, save yourself anxiety and steer clear of the on-site parking, it's only reached through a very narrow archway with extended lumps at ground level - we gave up and the only car of similar size that was in the car park itself had a big door dent. Coincidence?
Friendly and efficient staff were apologetic, but it's a protected building and there's not much they can do. Free street parking is available not too far away and even metered parking nearby isn't expensive.
Olomouc itself is a lovely little town, laidback and packed with heritage and a far bit of hipster cool, well worth an overnight stay or two if you have the time.
What a breath of fresh air after all the stone-faced, miserable staff from the Jeseniky mountains. I have booked this Pension for my family at least 10 times during the last few years and have never been disappointed. Breakfast is good, there is safe parking in the yard but the entrance is narrow so take care. Alternative parking is available so no problem there although check with staff as the local traffic police will stick a wheel clamp on anything that stays still for a second. You have a great choice between a double room and 3 bed family room with kitchenette. In a nutshell, Pension U Jakuba has always made us feel very welcome.
Nicely renovated historical building right near the upper + lower town squares. Service helpful + friendly, but lowest quality (IKEA + worse) furnishings with cheapest mattresses possible. Odd arrangement of room with open-top 'rooms' built into large space. Little things missing/broken, like soap dish in shower, etc. No shampoo or anything provided, perhaps typical of Czech pensions. Breakfast very limited with nasty instant coffee provided in vacuum jars. We where there on a weekend for a wedding, but I can imagine the street below our window could get pretty noisy with cars, trucks, trams, + trolley busses.
