We stayed 2 nights in this cosy riad 3 minutes walk from jemma el fna square. We had a room facing the terrace, it was clean and well furnished. All over the riad you can see how much attention was dedicated to the details. Ali was fantastic, he helped us in arranging taxis, restaurants, we had lovely chat with him talking about Maroccan culture. We will choose this Riad next time we are in Marrakech.

Hotel is located within 5 minutes from Jma El Fna which makes it easy for us to shop or just walk around the souk. The Riad was not easy to find initially, Mehmad came to pick us up from the parking area and lead us to the Riad. We had to go through small alleys to get to the Riad. There were many cafes and food stalls, money changer and souvenir shops near the Riad. We usually sat at a nearby cafe to relax and watching people. The Kutoubia mosque is not that far from the Riad-about 20 minutes walking. Check in was fast, we were served with Moroccon mint tea when we arrived. Staff was very accommodating and strived to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The room is small and clean. The blanket is very thin, hence, had to request for a thicker blanket since I can’t stand cold. Bed and pillows were not comfortable. I don’t sleep well during my stay at the Riad. No hot water on the first day and before we could lodge a complaint, they had already fixed the problem. Breakfast was average, just bread, butter, jam, tea or coffee, and orange juice. Second day, same menu plus eggs. Recommend to stay at the Riad if you are looking for a budget hotel and close to some attractions. Just a word of caution, if you want to buy things from the souk make sure you really bargain the price. They tend to inflate the price very high and if you are unlucky they can even change the agreed price which happened to us. We just left the shop and told the guy we will only buy based on the initial agreed price.

Throughout our 4 night stay at Riad Casa Sophia, Mehdi was extremely welcoming, providing us with a mint tea on arrival and useful information regarding business hours during Ramadan. The riad was ideally located, in a small street just 3-minute walk from the Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Our room was charming, with easy access to the terrace and patio. Mehdi was also kind enough to knock off a few dirhams as we didn’t have the breakfast on two days of our stay.

Absolutely loved our stay in this riad. Location is perfect, just few minutes away from Jemaa el-Fna. Owner will answer all your questions or make you a mint tea for free and is always smiling. Room and the whole property was very clean. But the best part was breakfast, which was just perfect every day. If We go back to Marrakech one day, we will definitely stay here again.

I stayed here in July 2017 with a buddy. Absolutely loved everything about the riad. The owner, Omar, was incredible from the moment I booked my trip. He helped me arrange transportation from the airport to the riad, which was necessary, as the riad is a bit difficult to find if you're not familiar with Marrakech. During our stay, Omar recommended a reputable hammam near the square and helped us arrange our own transportation for a day trip to the Ourika Valley. On our last day, he was able to book us a spot on a bus to Essaouira for a very affordable price.

As for the actual riad itself, I have no real complaints. Beds were comfortable enough, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. This was important, as the temperature was sitting at 40C for most of our trip. WIFI worked perfectly, though it was stronger in the lobby than it was in our room at the top of the riad. There were fresh towels in our room every day, and I appreciated the breakfast every morning. Hot water in the shower was a bit unpredictable, but the shower was otherwise fine.

As for location, it's worth mentioning just how close this riad is to EVERYTHING in the Medina. It's walking distance to Jemma El-Fnaa (2-min), the Tombs (10-min), the Bahia Palace (6-min), the souks (6-min), and Koutoubia Mosque (10-min). Many restaurants, shops, and cafes are within walking distance as well, as are the taxis, grand taxis, and buses. I'd definitely stay here again in Marrakech!

Questions & answers about the rooms

Good morning, I'm so sorry but in our place place we don't have any room in the ground floor or accessible by elevator. In my poin of view is better if you find a hotel in the new city and not the Medina, because the medina has only narrow streets and you can not enter there with any taxi. If you stay in the new city everyday you can take a taxi to the big square that is the central part of medina and then explore it,and also for the excursion around marrakech the minibus can pick you up directly from the Hotel. The new city is far around 5 min by taxi from the big square, and the price of a taxi is around 2/3 Us dollars. Hoping you understand my advices I wish you a beautiful time in Morocco. Best regards Omar
