Stayed Feb 2019. Exhausted on arrval, I understand checking times have to be set, but no one who has been travelling for nearly 24 hours appreciates being told to go off to busy themselves for hours awaiting their room, when you feel so tired that you are close to falling down! First room - I had booked a one bedroom end suite as they came with a bath and a balcony - was of an oppressive lay out and stark. Having stayed at the Conrad last time, comparitively the living area was without any comfort and not somwhere anyone would want to spend time. Most disturbing was that the noise level - despite being 28 floors up - was dreadful. The windows appeared to have just single glazing, so it sounded like they were open, and in central Bangkok that is no joke. The staff were couteous and agreed to moving me to another room lower floor, far better layout. Like an apart hotel, the suite comes fitted with a kitchenette, with Smeg hob, oven, washing machine, family sized fridge/freezer (which I quickly stocked with ice lollies from the 7-11 across the road) and complementary bottled water daily. But rather than investing in fancy toilet/bidets with heatable seats (in 30degree heat!!!), hotel could do with supplying guests with robes that are not grey or filled with holes. I really recoiled when I found this in the wardrobe. Very poor indeed to have passed the room inspection. Should have never made it to the hanger (and the out dated satin padded hangers need to be removed too) let alone be tied and presented for customer use!
I also found myself using the complementary dental kit to clean the overflow vent in the bathroom basin, which had clearly not been cleaned in weeks, brown and quite filthy. Carpets were very clean however and the decor in the bedroom was lovely - huge image of old Siam and wooden shutters instead of curtains. Pool area is small - functional rather than somwhere tranquil to sit and relax. There are some areas to sit outside with potted orchids at the front of the hotel, but no gardens to speak of. Complementary hot drinks are available in the lobby, but again are underwhelming, a small serving provided in flimsy paper "cups" - again, no quality to this, which is disappointing to visitors. in this area of really high quality hotels (Okura, Athenee, Indigo and Conrad), this one needs to pay more attention to detail in order to keep up. The bones are there, but it needs an excellent staff member to look at it with fresh eyes and see where small tweaks could improve customer comfort. First thing - robes!!!
