Got an irresistible deal for this hotel so proceeded to book a baby-moon staycation for the missus and me. Reading through the numerous 1* reviews here got us a little wary though. Having completed my stay, I'm glad to report that Amara Sanctuary is nowhere near as rough as described by some naysayers here.
That said, some of the accusations are probably quite true. The rooms are a tad dated (likely not been refreshed since they opened around 2007), grounds maintenance is not exactly top-notch and there's no seating area in the lobby so any delay in checking in/out would likely require you to stand for quite a while. The Sky pool above most of the rooms seemed pretty nice from my brief visit whereas at the Dream pool, which is a fair walk away but probably more suitable for swimmers like me who actually wanted to clock laps, waters seemed a tad murky.
Nonetheless, one might also choose to be an eternal optimist and marvel at the idyllic historic grounds the hotel is nestled in, the pretty good breakfast served at Shutters, the superb location (less than 4min walk to the beach from the open-air carpark and just opposite RWS), convenient shuttle services to Harbourfront MRT and spacious rooms on offer. Service was warm from my short encounters with staff at check-in/out although I must confess my wife and I are not the kind to impose on the hotel staff generally. It appears many complaints were directed at the lack of service/long waiting times but do be reminded that we are in the midst of a pandemic so staff numbers likely have been curtailed. Apparently, the Aileron wellness gym is not open 24hrs for now too as the staff who chased me out when I was getting ready for my 1am workout informed me. Nothing some in-room static exercises couldn't fix!
All in, it was an enjoyable stay at the Amara Sanctuary and I hope to be back to savour its full glory once the pandemic is over and operations are back to full swing.
3 thumbs up for Amara Sanctuary Resort.
Everything went so smooth to book 8 rooms with Hotel Mgr Poom Samkasat, very realiable, systematic and prompt. Personally felt it was not only efficient, yet a good sound understanding of things from a broad perspective. As we are a big group seeking a quiet resort to break the "work from home" routine, a staycation with yoga to stretch our mind, Poom suggested an ideal venue for our practices, big enough for safety-distancing, so serene with much privacy despite the non-stop heavy rain throughout our stay. Thanks to the complimentary breakfast offered and a balcony room with a lovely view (for my anniversary)
Guest Relation Mgr Tommy was so kind, he had the venue cleaned, prepared and to our delight a carton of complimentary water was delivered before we start our yoga sessions, so thoughtful, there was nothing else we lack. He also generously offered me a complimentary late check out when I asked about the day rate and was ready to pay for it. His extended gesture of making himself available for us made us feel so looked after, we cant thank him enough.
An average venue for dinning, too cold indoor, at dinner, service slow to respond, staff look unmotivated, food is average and service was short, staff at dinner seems not trained and unable to understand guest's special request. However a dynamic breakfast team was prompt and "alive" a total contrast. Some office staff came to help on different mornings, service was a delight at breakfast !
Amara Resort is indeed a Sanctuary, the outdoor area of Shutters restaurant is set amidst nicely manicured, lovely lush greens, trees with squrriels, birds and peacocks to add vibe to our breakfast experience, best to dine outdoor. The surrounding landscape so healing for the senses when you take strolls, giving a soothing mental bath despite the rain forbidding a swim in the clean refreshing-looking pool.
I had a deep tissue massage by San San, a small frame friendly lady with great deep pressure to my liking to unknot my body, a rejuvenating experience.
Overall, a 5 star service experience that is memorable and making me want to return. Our group is planning another staycation in August, see you soon Amara Sanctuary. Thank you for the wonderful staycation, a great team !
Was staying with my fiancé at Amara and since it was our anniversary, we decided to splurge on their luxurious Courtyard Suite (with private jacuzzi).
We were looking forward to relaxing in the suite, but once we walked into the room and toilet, I immediately noticed a pool of water near the second toilet sink. The puddle started from the tap, spread to the side of the basin, and then to the floor it was dripping on. On a closer look we realised the tap was faulty.
I proceeded to open the minifridge as the hotel provided a complimentary minibar. However, the first thing that caught my eye was a half-opened bottle of juice left sitting in the fridge. Needless to say our excitement level dropped significantly.
After the two incidents, I dialled the reception and they sent their colleagues to help sort out the situation. The engineers that came to fix the tap were at it for more than an hour. Another colleague came with 8 bottles of water till we clarified that it was the half-opened bottle of juice we were uncomfortable about, and she replaced with a fresh one.
When the engineers left, they went off without an update (we were watching TV in our room and assumed they went to get more help/the necessary part). Upon checking the tap, we found that they had taken the head off completely so we were unable to use (leaky tap or not).
After waiting for 30min without any news, I dialled reception again. The receptionist checked with her colleagues and proceeded to inform me that they were unable to fix the tap, and the part will be replaced and the tap fixed any time during the next day or two (when we stayed there). We were offered a complimentary breakfast for the next day for the inconvenience of the tap (although a room replacement might have been more preferable but we thought the tap would be fixed soon).
For our anniversary dinner, we tried calling Amara's restaurant Shutters in advance to reserve, but nobody picked up the call. We emailed twice to Amara as well before we finally got a confirmation on our reservation. Unfortunately, when we went down for dinner that night, we were told that our name was not in the reservation list (despite our efforts to make the booking). Luckily they still had space and proceeded to seat us.
We were at Amara for 2 nights, and until check-out, our tap was still left unfixed. Fortunately we had 2 basins, but it did not leave a pleasant impression. Upon informing their colleague who was helping us with the check-out, the response was less enthusiastic than hoped, nonetheless she did say that her manager will call to follow-up with us. It's been a week since our stay, and we're still waiting for the call from Amara.
Arriving at the hotel with a car and having complimentary car park - check!
Staff at the counter (Lyn) was so sweet as she saw I was heavily pregnant and offered for me to have a seat at the counter opposite so I wouldn't need to wait standing, she came over to the table and settled our check-in smoothly.
Our room was not available yet but she had us stay in a temporary room first so we can lounge and rest. My toddler took a nap while waiting, they even called if we were comfortable. (super sweet staffs!)
When our room was ready we were taken to Villa 9 and the set up for the Masters Bedroom was so cute! My toddler was so excited about the tent with a bed they made up! The masters bed was quite big, my toddler did not end up sleeping on the tent but we were really comfortable on the large bed. Loved the indoor pool and dream pool too! 2 bed room villa rooms were really spacious and the outdoor dining space was nice! We really enjoyed the private pool!
We had in-room breakfast which I ordered from the QR code which allows to chat / order / make requests like room cleaning / buggy service and it was really convenient and overall quite fast service. We were even buggy picked up by one of the managers (Tommy) and sent us to the dream pool. He was very friendly and despite the lack of staffs I felt that Amara still made our staycation extra special.
We brought our car to go around Sentosa but they also have shuttles provided for guests to go around Sentosa. Buggy service was also available till late and the accommodating staffs did not hesitate to assist us.
Overall, Amara made our Anniversary Staycation super special and we had a wonderful stay! Will definitely come back!
Our family had 3 rooms on L3.
Housekeeping starts from higher room numbers then go down to 311. Do expect the last room to be made up around 4-5pm.
There is connecting dlx rooms.
If you need ice, bring the bucket to Shutters.
Book your pool time or gym slots as early as check-in if needed.
Things I liked:-
Location- so convenient. Use the monorail to Vivo instead of shuttle bus. You can stroll to Luge & RWS easily.
Bath amenities , bathrobes & house slippers.
Mini bar provides 2 cans of coke & 2 juices, 2 tiny kitkats & Oreos which are replenished daily. 4 small bottles of water.
Peppermint, lemon & ginger, breakfast tea bags with small sachets of coffee granules.
The things I didn’t like:-
Loud sink tap when using. Hard to control volume of water & splashes all over counter top.
Top of luggage compartment very dirty. Please sanitize. Under the luggage compartment to be vacuumed regularly.
TV didn’t have any visual only sound.
Kettle area was dusty.
Overnight rubbish left outside the corridors.
