Reasonable tourist-oriented hotel convenient to Tanjang Pagar MRT station (a few minutes) walk, convenient to small restaurants and pubs at bottom of building and along Tanjang Pagar; a short walk to offices along Robinson Road. Nice, large and clean outdoor pool on 3rd floor (take your own towels from the room, there are no services there); I counted 7 lounge chairs around the pool but there were few or no other guests using the pool during the two mornings I used it. Four lifts serving some 20 floors. In my fairly-large double-sized room, which was near the lifts, were one comfortable king-size and one twin bed, a desk and chair, a small cocktail table with two chairs. Fair-sized bathroom with a shower (no tub), and half the time over four days the water was not hot, but warm. Some mold in the bathroom, no electrical outlet in the bathroom but there is a phone there as well as in the main room. Lighting in bathroom weak, not good for shaving. Local calls are SGD 10 cents per minute. Small fridge with sufficient space for personal items; in-room electronic safe large enough to hold laptop; iron and ironing board; coffee maker with tea and coffee, two small complementary bottles of water daily; adequate toiletries; good quality airconditioning (controls). Very difficult to get wireless internet in room or in hallway; the signal was weak and faded in and out. Wireless in the lobby was also spotty. However if you have a laptop and a LAN cable there is an outlook in wall adjacent to the desk; that worked. Internet access is free but password needed from front desk. At the desk there are two electrical outlets which accepts various countries' pin connectors (including European two round pin and American or Japanese two flat pins) without need for an adaptor. Flat screen TV with about 25 channels in various languages. Large and clean windows in room which could be adequately darkened with the curtains. One day housekeeping didn't come until 5 pm. Concierge and front desk staff friendly and helpful. Oddly, breakfast buffet was more expensive than lunch or dinner buffets. I didn't eat at the hotel but it was fairly easy to find alternatives within walking distance. Price and location were fine, but for the area I might investigate other nearby hotels in future. I would rate it 3 1/2 stars.

Stayed just the one night between flights from Australia to Vietnam. Nice hotel, very close to Chinatown, room was spacious and very comfortable, bathroom well appointed and very nice. Walked down to Chinatown for dinner so did not dine at the hotel. Supermarket and markets located across the road at the rear of the hotel. Nice looking pool area. Gym functional but a bit small with only basic and limited equipment. Friendly staff. WiFi was free but I could not connect as Windows detected certificate issues and I could not get past it. Would stay again though, it was nice.

The Orchid Hotel is, for me, a rarity in that it offers no in-room information about accommodation, breakfast, room service, tours, or the hotel itself. But while it aspires to neither ambience nor character, the Orchid is perfectly located - two minutes walk to Tanjong Pagar MRT, excellent bus services at the door, a supermarket including a pharmacy, plenty of fruit and veg vendors, a daytime upstairs food centre within about 50 metres walk, and a terrific selection of great Japanese holes-in-the-wall right downstairs - so all is forgiven. We walked all over Chinatown and enjoyed delicious cheap-as-chips lunches at the Maxwell hawker centre every day. For authentic Hokkaido cuisine, try Hokkaido Izakaya, right around the corner at 95 Tanjong Pagar Road - it's really something else. There are other excellent restaurants on the Tras Road side of the Amara Hotel just nearby. We cooled off in the pool with almost no other guests around and after a morning check out and a hot day out, the always lovely staff allowed us to use the pool showers to change before leaving for our evening flight. The only downside, I think, were noisy other guests - not the hotel's fault, but tour groups up for brekkie at 6:30am shouting to each other up and down the halls, or between rooms with open hallway doors, were pretty frustrating. We had a room on the ninth floor looking over the red rooves of Tanjong Pagar shophouses north over Chinatown - really nice to sit, morning or night, and just look at Singapore downtown. Recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room looking north over Chinatown or up Tanjong Pagar Road, away from the elevators.

This is a well placed centrally located hotel - a stone's throw to the MRT, a variety of eateries and entertainment joints, walking distance to Chinatown and Marina Bay. Clean, comfortable bed, wifi, with good inhouse facilities such as swimming pool, fitness centre, restaurant. Real value for money. I would stay there again.

Very dated rooms although definitely spacious , just all beige and brown. Shower room had been updated and good shower, so all fine there. Staff friendly. Buffet breakfast good and they will bring you a pot of tea or a cappuccino if you ask. Big dining room, mostly overlooking the pool, but we wouldn't want to have any meals there apart from breakfast, due to the lack of ambience. If you don't care about the decor it is good value.
