I booked the York Hotel as a surprise for my parents who were celebrating a milestone anniversary. They've just returned and absolutely raved about the hotel. Their room opened onto the pool area which meant it felt like a private apartment rather than a hotel. It was enormous with 2 queen beds plus plenty of room to relax and a clean, modern bathroom with all the amenities. When booking, I had mentioned that it was their milestone anniversary and staff organised complimentary welcome drinks & fruit platter - a lovely touch which was very much appreciated.

The breakfast buffet was enormous and delicious, the pool was wonderful and there was a small gym. In addition, the hotel is just a 5 minute walk from Orchard Road's shopping & dining hub, so mum could shop to her heart's content whilst dad relaxed at the hotel reading the complimentary newspapers with a coffee. Perfect! It's walking distance to the MRT with taxis available from the hotel (taxis are very cheap).

They have said that they will always stay at the York whenever they are in Singapore from now on.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for choosing us as your parents' choice of accommodation during their recent visit celebrating their anniversary.

It is most rewarding to hear that they had a wonderful stay in our spacious Cabana room and they enjoyed our convenient location, cleanliness, facilities, amenities and extensive breakfast and they appreciated the complimentary welcome drinks and fruit platter extended to them.

We hope we will have the pleasure of being your hotel of choice again for the next special occasion.

Warm Regards,

Jessie Tan

You know how they say you can't believe everything you read on the internet nowadays? Well, after having spent 3D2N in this wonderful establishment, the following review is definitely an exception. Having worked in the customer service/hospitality industry most of my adult life, trust that I know what I'm talking about.

Firstly, although our trip was planned around Sentosa, being a birthday trip, the hotel came highly recommended by our travel agent, due to the availability of 'quadruple rooms' able to accomodate 4 adults, which was perfect as I was travelling with the family, while simultaneously being accessible to & from the local train system, to get around almost anywhere. Can't say much on the price/rates as I didnt really compare to others since we focused on the bedding arrangement/hotel location more. But for the price paid for accomodation including breakfast, it was all worth it.

As the hotel did not have its own shuttle service nor hote limo service, flying in on the redeye, and although it was also recommened to take a taxi, we opted to take an airport shuttle bus, booked with Ground Transport, just off Arrival Hall, at SGD9/pax, thinking that we'd get an extra tour of the city on the way to the hotel. But as we were the only passengers, ie we did not need to stop at other hotels before getting to our own, the trip took approx 30min, probably less. Its a long but direct highway from the airport before it finally turns into the hotel's neighbourhood.

Location-wise, I cant really find any fault as its a short walking distance from Orchard Road, the MRT and basically local/hgh end malls and restaurants. Please disregard other comments you've read, about how difficult it is to get back to, being uphill, etc. Unless you' re physically challenged, trust me when I say ITS NOT THAT STEEP of a hill, for both entrances.

The main entrance leads out to Scotts Road, which easily gets you to Orchard Road, and closest to the MRT entrance, The other entrance, is the one actually on Mt Elizabeth, ie its registered address. Again, this is a short walk down to Orchard Road. Taxis were easily made available from both lobbies, For the surrounding area, I didnt bother to verify but the building itself seemed to be within the residential &or serviced apartments area, besides the nearby hospital/medical facility. That being said, its a very (welcoming) quiet area vs the expected 'noise; from people & traffic, were you staying in the other known hotels down Orchard Road.

I dont think the hotel was in full occupancy during our stay, as I never saw the lobby too hectic &or buzzing with guests, but then again, we would be out early and back late so I could be wrong. But what I want to point out is that the lobby, the hotel looked clean and well maintained, overall. IT IS a 4 star hotel, But maybe if you see it as one of those with old-school hospitality, w/o the frills of high tech facilities, you will have a pretty good picture of what to expect. I started my career in such a hotel, and pretty much stayed in similar properties when travelling abroad (or locally on weekend getways), so me and the family are pretty much comfortable and used to this type of atmosphere with our choice of accomodation.

Guest rooms/floors can only be accessed with room keys, so there is NO problem with Security. Yes we had to walk through the coffee shop to get to the lifts. It's the hotel design, and there is a proper pathway, ie you're not walking between tables or trying to avoid servers, patrons. It's not a big deal.

The actual room design/in-room facilities maybe dated but they are acceptable, again thinking in 'old-school' terms. Housekeeping does a great job, the room always looking clean afterwards, whatwith the white beddings, towels, etc. We did not experience any problems with the water pressure or aircon.

The swimming pool and gym are 2 floors off the lobby. Nothing fancy but efficiently equipped and adequate. The pool reminded me of one that you'd have at home, in your own backyard. Clean. Relaxing. Quiet. The buffet breakfast at the White Rose Cafe is as is expected, ie standard and not overwhelming or in-your-face as some hotels mistakenly offer. Think of the old saying 'less is more', catering to basic western & asian palettes, including vegetarians.

Now here's the best part of all, the backbone of the hotel, ie customer service. Ms Jessie Tan, Ms Teresa Kok & Mr Desmond Chan lead an excellent team via Reservations (Rachel), Receptionists (Ryan), Concierge/Bell and Duty Managers (Joshua, Rosalyn & Narsha). The hotel's image is further well represented by the cafe staff (Ramli and the breakfast servers) and basically all of the staff you come across with, eg housekeeping on floor, security in the corridors, bellmen in the lobby, all ready and welcoming with a friendly smile &or greeting.

I cant/dont feel the need to discuss in detail, the unforgettable experience and top-notch hospitality treatment we received from the abovementioned staff as its somewhat personal. But me and my family felt that that these people are truly sincere in what they do, serving their clients, thus giving the hotel's style of customer service a very personal touch.

So, when in Singapore, return visit or for the first time, if you're NOT looking for the dazzle or the over-the-top yet unnecesary facilities, if you WANT to have a quiet place to come back to after a day of meetings, sightseeings, shopping, etc, a place to call your 'home away from home', welcome to the YORK HOTEL and make sure you stay awhile. I did. And I'd do it again.

Compared with other Hotels I have been a guest in, this hotel is average with still room to improve. My best and memorable experience is the buffet break fast was great. Also enjoyed the pool environment and Gym.

Stayed here for one night with my husband and two kids aged 13 and 11. The room was very spacious, had king bed and two singles, I did alot of research to find a room that catered for all of us and there wasnt too many (room 803). A little dated maybe, but still a nice room. The hotel has an outside pool and a separate spa. I did see a gym but cant comment as didnt use this facility. The room included breakfast which had lots of variety. The hotel is a good 5 minute walk from Orchard Road itself and another 5 mintues to the MRT. Its worth noting that the hotel is up a slight hill, which for some might be a problem in the heat. It was a nice hotel for first time but I think I would try somewhere different next time. We paid $440 nzd.
