Upon check-in on 29 Aug, there was a lift breakdown in the hotel and the reception couldn't get the vendor to fix it on the day itself or the day after. As I came with my 2 yo daughter in a stroller and the room that was assigned to me was on the third floor, you can imagine how inconvenient it was for me that I had to request for assistance to bring the stroller and my bags up to the room. This incident marred my experience even before stepping into the room.
As I was in a desperate need to unwind/getaway, I just booked the remaining room available (the loft room) via Agoda at a non-refundable rate, even when there were no photos shown of the room in the first place. If I'd known, I would have picked another room because the loft room wasn't suitable for small children. There weren't enough safeguards to prevent children from falling over at the bed area.
Main door of room 303 needs to be shut by force.
Water seeping into the main area after shower.
Aircon temperature cannot be controlled manually.
Soundproofing is bad. Noises can be heard along the corridor.
Room is modern and tasteful.
Price is cheaper than most hotels in Singapore.
Hotel comes with a small swimming pool (although it's not yet approved to reopen)
Location is very near to the MRT.
Like I always emphasize, I am not a picky person, but this hotel really needs loads of improvement if it want to attract better guests and also to sustain its cliente.
The hardware is getting old, my room 103, has a funny smell upon entering, the aircon is not working and hot water is totally dead. Despite informing the reception and the cleaning lady ( I had to personally walk to them as the phone has no one picking up all the time) , the problem is not solved the entire time. The reception is empty always and you have to either get the cleaning lady or walk to The Great Madras to seek help. Level 2 swimming pool is really small and there are no shades or umbrellas, the courtyard is just a few sad metal chairs with tables. The pool area is full of pigeon poo because there are many of them flying around this area.
Breakfast is even more pathetic, starting only 7:30 by 9 there was nothing already. The staff simply sit there and chit chat and they could see the food finishing but cannot be bothered to go replenish. When you tell them to replenish, they gave an unhappy face. Generally the staff are not motivated and just do things for the sake of doing.
The only plus point about the Daulat is that the room is really much spacious that I would have thought and the toilets are huge. There are also ironing facilities and hair dryer. The bed is comfy and cosy and really good to sleep in.
If you are a budget traveller, I suggest you take the Great Madras instead, it seemed better, and lower price. Not very worth to spend your money here.
Staying at this hotel was a big disappointment, rooms far to small had to crawl over each other to get out of bed, mould round the edges of shower tray, between toilet and shower was a small rail to hang clothes which wasn't very hygienic. Had to walk over cases. Advertised with swimming pool which was a joke as it was under maintenance and looked as if it had been for a long time. Breakfast was eggs fried to death and white rice. Asked if we could have cereal for next day and were told to go and get it ourselves. Have never after 50 years of travelling stayed at a worse hotel.
I don’t understand why this hotel has so many good reviews. After only staying this place 1 night out of the 3 we booked I had to come back and write a review to warn other travellers of this misconception.
First of all very small, everything is small. There’s only 20 something rooms in the entire hotel, which might be nice or intimate if done correctly but this hotel to did achieve that. Instead it meant few working staff, the staff that were there appeared uninterested. The room we stayed in was therefore unclean because I can only assume the receptionist was also the cleaner.
We stayed in the loft double room. The pictures looked amazing something special to finish our trip in Singapore. Before booking we checked the reviews to see if this was as good as it looked and after scanning a few which were mostly positive we decided to book. The strict no refund policy should have been a red flag in hindsight.
The pictures made the room appear so much larger when we actually entered there was no where to even keep your suitcases without having to step over them all the time upstairs is just the bed.
The pictures on this website must of been taken as soon as the place was built because they have let the place go severely. It has not had a deep clean ever. Soap scum all through the shower and basin. Dust and grime or along skirtings and fixtures. And filthy throw pillow laid in the bed with yellow stains where there should have been white.
Hoping to redeem some qualities we ventured to the ‘pool area’. This outdoor space was the worst part we had seen yet. Fake lawn covered in dirt, a rusty table and chairs. We turn the corner to the sound of pigeons flying off out of the pool. Revealing a wall of feces to the likes I have not seen before. It was disgusting, the pool was unswimmable.
We decided there’s no way we are going to let this ruin the rest of our trip in beautiful Singapore and decided there we will book a different place. So we left the very next day.
My partner and I were so excited to stay at this place since the photos looked so nice. But unfortunately, we walk into this tiny little space where there’s no room to even open up your suitcase. Everything’s dusty, yellow- stained pillow by the wall, room temperature set to 32 degrees and pool area covered in pigeons and their faeces. It is not what we expected at all. Not worth the money we paid for, it’s frustrating that they don’t do refunds. The budget hotel we stayed at prior to this was a lot nicer, cleaner and cheaper.
