Unbelievable. For the same cost as a standard hostel double room we got a great bed, nice new linen, breakfast with fresh bread, cheese, ham, jam filter coffee, yogurt, juice and service with a smile. The gentleman who owns the place is so gentle, extremely knowledgeable about Chile and the surrounding sights, and lovely to chat to. The lady who does the breakfast is an absolute gem of a person, friendly, personal and keeps the place spotless. The bathroom is 5 star and my wife loved the hairdryer. What a blessing to our trip over Christmas time.
I really don't know how to describe this place...
Is it a stunning hostel? NO!
Is it a stunning room? NO!
Is it a great experience? Definitely!
The hostel is extremely clean, cozy, well-located and simple!!!
The owner, Arvid, is an Austrian very dear and honorable host. He knows extremely well how to receive people... He is always helpful, flexible, kindly and sympathetic! A real Lord...
His smile and kindness are captivating...
He knock your door in the morning if you want, to wake you up... He provides great tours... He always spend his time talking with you and give hints about you trip... He let you use the kitchen, if necessary...
The rooms have air conditioning and minibar. The breakfast is served just in time. There is free Internet access. The price is fair.
Nothing more to say... Just: GO!
A simple house with only a few rooms but very clean. We stayed there for only one night on our way to Argentina – which the man who gave us the room (owner??) couldn't understand at all. Breakfast (with bread, cheese, ham, jam,...) is served by a very nice young girl in the small public area. Our room was facing the street and a bit noisy, maybe there are better ones.
We stayed in the Hosteria Outsider for 4 nights. Everything was clean and the price is in the middle section for a room with baño privado (what we like to have).
The owner is very, very well informed about "What to do" in the region and Chile. You can also make trips with him, what we did. The trips are very cheap and uncomparable!! No other company provides that!! Check the homepage of the hosteria: www.turout.com.
Breakfast was good and you even can take some cheese and ham for your lunch :)
Overall we enjoyed our stay!
Pros: The staff was very helpful for weeks before our trip, helping us to figure out bus tickets and make plans before and after our trip. The owner's son came and picked us up from the airport and he was very nice and helpful. Strong water pressure in the shower.
Cons: This was on the high end for what we paid for a hostel on this trip and felt it was very loud at night and on the dirty side. The breakfast was literally a few slices of cheese and meat, which was not pleasing to us vegetarians! The room we stayed in faced the street which was very loud throughout the night.
