TLDR; We came on a road trip from Lima to Colca then to Arequipa. While Colca accommodation was great, this hotel is not worth the price they asked for. There are other places near the main square with better price/quality ratio.
First of all, although the place is far (30 to 40 minutes) from the main square, we selected this place as we were looking for quiet where we could rest. It’s not happening as there is now a huge party near the hotel.
Secondly -and this was my fault- I reserved a twin room and I needed a double room. As I saw few to no people when checking in I asked one of the bells if the hotel had low occupation. He said yes. When I asked for a change in the room after realizing my mistake they made a lot of excuses even saying the hotel was full (which was later a lie as there is low occupancy right now...as told by the counter). After much talking and telling then that someone told me there was low occupancy, they agreed to change the room at, for now, no cost.
Then, the rooms (and the hotel itself). This is supposedly a 4 star hotel and as such you expect some things. Well, nothing. The rooms are old (although clean), bathrooms are small, NO A/C (at least in the room I was assigned) making the room uncomfortably hot. Windows could be opened with the risk of being bitten by some kind of mosquitoes. They did gave us a fan, which proved to be ineffective.
WiFi is really -and I mean REALLY- slow. Even my 4G connection was much faster. Pool was filthy until 10 am. The small fridge in the room wasn’t working properly and when reported to the reception I got “Maintenance staff is not available until morning”. The receptionist himself had to come with a different fridge as they are short staffed.
Breakfast was 3 of 5. Not a big deal but I was expecting more as this is, supposedly, a 4-star hotel.
Although there were late responses to this issues, I am really disappointed and won’t be coming again nor recommending this place to anyone.
This hotel is in a lovely quiet area, and on beautiful grounds. I think the staff must love to work here, as everyone seemed to go about their business quietly without noise and nodding to you as you walk past. It is a clean and lovely place, there is everything that a solo or a family would need to have a good quiet relaxing time, even those with young children. Everything was well maintained, and the views from the pool area is great. The town center is not far, though you will have to take a taxi ride. Walk to the main road for one, it will be cheaper!
The outdoor area is great for children and they have a nice pool and some games to play. The location is great eventhought it takes some time to go to downtown. There are still lot of improvement potential. One of the thing I didn´t like it was that we booked the room for 4 (2 adults and 2 children) and it is written in small letter that breakfast was only for 2! This is a total nonsense (eventhough is contractually correct). Additionally, they say that they have a fitness area but all the equipment wasn´t working well and ,even after I asked to repair, until the last day the equipment couldn´t be used. It is good that they have sauna and whirlpool and I have used. The only problem is that it has to be booked one day in advance in a very limited time frame.
The hotel is a few kilometers from the Plaza de Armas; without traffic a taxi needs 20-25 minutes to get to the center. This makes the hotel unattractive for a short stay in Arequipa. We also found the service lacking, no help in unloading luggage from the car to the rooms. At first we were assigned an uncleaned room, but this was changed immediately. The breakfast is over a water pool with ducks, but it lacked vegetables and the bread was not fresh. The coffee was almost undrinkable. On the whole the establishment does not justify the number of stars it has. On the other hand if you want to run a meeting there, it is not a bad choice, but the management must pay attention to details and try to improve the shabby appearance and the quality of service and food.
The building it self is nice, but in need of some renovations, nothing major, but bits and pieces all over.
The rooms are big and nice, but no heating or air conditioning. It was a bit chilly at night, but not to bad. The worst part is the bathroom floor - that was freezing. The no heating seems to be an issue many places in Peru.
My room had a small bathtub witch was nice. The mechanism that close the drain didn't close tightly so I had to refill the tub constantly. Worse was however that it wouldn't stay in open position either so when showing the tub filled with water.
The doors to the hallway was not very soundproofed.
The restaurant was more a joke. We had obviously a waiter that was under training, and that's ok. Then you should be lenient. However I do not think it's ok that the food for 7 persons arrive so spread out that the all but one has managed to finish their food before the last plate arrive. And that's the chefs responsibility, not the waiter.
The food was not that great either. They did not manage to cook the meat to medium, everything was well done.
Another strange thing - the English language in the menu was not understandable. We suspect that they have used a bad version of Google translate.
They have a nice pool area, but no one is attending the bar there, so if you would like a refreshment you have to go to the restaurant and search for a waiter. No big deal, but it wouldn't be a big problem for them to circle the pool once in a while to ask if someone wants something.
You can't order from the restaurant or the room service menu at the pool. I find that a bit stupid. I would like to sit outside snd eat a light lunsh. Apparently they want do that because the food might get cold.
The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. That makes it quite, but at the same time a bit unpractical for sight seeing. A taxi to city centre is not pricy, about 20soles, so its not a big issue.
All in all, its an ok hotel, but it could have been great. The most disappointing is the restaurant - they really need to get the act together.
