When I arrived here from the overnight train (8am) there was a notice on the door saying they were closed. No email or prior notice so I had to sit and wait for a few hours until someone finally opened up at 11.30ish. She was not very friendly, but I was able to leave my heavy luggage then and check in later.
My private room was awesome! Very big with private bathroom, sofa chairs, a closet and TV.
The hostel itself is in a great location. Really close to Old Town and not too far from the metro. Pick-up for the Braşov/Castles day tour is just around the corner too.
The downsides to the hostel though were passive aggressive notes everywhere posting the rules, some unfriendly staff members and when the cleaner comes they literally go through your stuff to hang/put clothes in the closet and rearrange everything. I mentioned it at check out as it’s a bit weird and unnecessary.
Anyway, it’s really quiet here. There’s a terrace but I didn’t really see any other guests. The internet is good and it’s pretty cheap.
The hostel was generally not horrible and location is great, but the room itself didn't lock and there were no lockers in my dorm room, so security was at a minimum. Add to that that the showers on the 2nd floor and some of the toilets don't lock. What person doesn't want privacy for these things? This is an easy fix with a cheap slide latch so no one sees you peeing or bathing, but no, not installed. That is supremely odd and uber pennypinching in my humble opinion. The bed was comfortable after I changed out the mattress, but initially the springs woke me up with noise and poking with every time I turned at night. Rooms were hot, but on cold, rainy nights this was better than being cold in my opinion. The vibe was mostly friendly but quiet here, which is what I like; not a party hostel. For the price it isn't bad at all, but get some latches and locks for the place please?
My Bucharest holiday was ruined when I was bitten by bed bugs at Antique Hostel. Woke up before 4am to find the whole bed crawling with bed bugs & they were crawling all over me too!!! The hostel description stated that 24-hour reception. There was only 1 Romanian guy who could not speak a single word of English. No help at all. Had to pack up & leave hostel at 4am to look for another hotel! Imagine wondering around alone at 4am in a new city since I was on a solo travel!!! This was my 1st encounter with bed bugs & I was traumatised! Went back to Antique Hostel at 8am & showed the manager & staff the bed which still had bed bugs on it. Was compensated for 1 night and they helped to steam my things & given insect bite cream. However, this was not enough to make up for the traumatic experience & the paranoia that I am suffering (could not get a good night sleep until now as I kept waking up to check my bed whenever there is an itch). Had to take anti histamine medication & apply steroid cream on bites due to itch. Had to spend more money on new hotel, laundry & plastic + ziplock bags to ensure these bed bugs do not hitchhike on my things. According to Antique Hostel staff, this is not the first time they have bed bug issues! AVOID ANTIQUE HOSTEL
I am a business traveller. I basically live in hotels. I knew I had to be in Bucharest at 02:00 in the morning, and leave at 08:00, so needed just something cheap and central, so chose Antique Hostel instead of a more expensive hotel. I regret the decision. My room cost 27 euros. I checked in, went to sleep, got up, and left. That was all. Within two hours of leaving Antique Hostel tried three times to take 50 euros as a "fine" from my bank card recorded via booking.com. When I demanded to know what the hell they were doing, they replied I had damaged linen. This is an outright lie. My only conclusion is that these guys are cheats. So, be careful. If you need to stay here, pay in cash. Be careful they don't try and deceive you with "fines" after your stay. I wonder if they often do this to supplement income, and only hope their management are not in on the fraud. I'll be writing to authorities, and their management, to complain.
I came spontanic, with no reservation.
Arrived to the hostel that locat at south side of the old city, the hart of the bars/pubs/clubs ex'...
The cost was 40 lei for a bed in 10 bed room.
My room was at 3 floor , no elivator.
In the 3 floor 2 rooms of 10 bed room and one/two privet room I guess 2 bed. Also 2 toilet and 2 shower.
Small kichen but with no option to cook, for that need to go to the big kichen in the graund floor.
In the 3 floor there is also lining room, the problem is if people seat there and make noize you ear it from the room.
Best shwer is locate at second floor.
Resaption work 24/7 and its good, the door always close so you feel secure.
The cost is 35 lei by booking web or 40 in the hostel.
Its perfect location, recomand for every one!
