We stayed at Hotel Highland Park while visiting with friends and doing some shopping in Thiruvananthapuram city. We could hardly have landed in a better or more convenient place.
Highland Park is a smoothly operating, well run hotel in every way. The front desk staff are professional, courteous and helpful. Our room was kept clean, as were all the public areas. Our laundry was washed, ironed perfectly and returned to us within a few hours.
Our corner room on the front of the building was large, clean, quiet and comfortable, with windows on 2 sides. We slept very well.
In our travels in India over the years, we had learned to manage where there's a general lack of polished English (or there's no English at all) among hotel and restaurant staff, merchants, people on the streets, and so on. So, it was with great relief and delight that we found that, this time, we'd landed in a hotel where virtually every staff member we encountered spoke crisp, perfect English. Thank you, Hotel Highland Park, for your educated, well-trained staff! It made staying here a breeze!
Our favorite part of our stay, however, was the onsite pure-vegetarian restaurant. The food was, without exception, properly prepared and absolutely delicious. The service was brisk and gracious and professional. The menu was expansive.
A bonus: Unlike many Indian restaurants, this one actually had everything that was listed on its menu. Never a "Sorry, madam, not available," the way we heard so often in so many other eating places in India.
Note: This hotel is often confused with the Highland Hotel, which is more expensive and almost right across the street from Hotel Highland Park, the subject of this review. If you stay here -- and I highly recommend it -- make sure you're delivered to the hotel you've actually booked.
