This hotel was suggested by my Indonesian friends because it is an expensive hotel (&presumably nice). Marcopolo is not suitable for Westerner.This dated unkept hotel is owned by a retired Army General & the resto (read:smoking area serving warm beer)is inhabited by bored looking uniformed soldiers lounging around. The tables are useful for laying their machine guns on.I asked for the most expensive room&it overlooked the public pool&harbour,albiet thru filthy windows&stained curtains.The Tv was broken&did not work,the fridge same :-(
Putting all this aside to a bit of bad luck&preparing to shower,the worlds largest cockroach attempted to steal the complimentary toothbrush,so I repacked my bag,called a taxi to The Sheraton (just AUD$20 more)&checked out.I did receive a full refund, "only" after standing my ground & demanding to talk to management.I tipped the Lady Manager 100K for the eventual kind service (& so as to not annoy the gun weilding soldiers)
