I was welcomed by a rainy evening in Manila and It was already late. I arrived at the hotel a little bit before the end of the check-in window but it was handled smoothly by the staff, I was settled in my room within 5 minutes and it was all good. Excellent quality service. The room given to me is not what I expected but since It was already late, I decided to take a rest and brought up the matter with the front desk the next day, then I was transferred eventually to another room which is far better than the first one. It’s all good. During my short stay I find the staff are courteous, helpful, accommodating and they handled things in a professional manner. Check-out is swift, and I manage to check-out late at 3pm (without additional obligation) so I can go straight to the airport but this, I guess, is a case to case basis.
The property is modern in design, I like it. It doesn't have a functioning restaurant at the moment but they offer free breakfast which can be ordered from nearby fast food/restaurant thru the front desk. Optional breakfast is available for additional cost but serving time is a little bit tricky than the usual. Give this one a go if you are not in a hurry as it would be served like 10ish. The open area / outdoor garden on the top floor is nice, it would be nicer if there's some sort of outdoor seating where guests would enjoy the morning/afternoon sun with coffee, beer or any drinks and snacks. SM San Lazaro is nearby for shopping and dining. Neighborhood is just ok with available small eateries and carinderia for food. The hotel lobby is somehow warm or hot with the lack of air conditioning. The location of this property is subjective. As for me, I had to attend to some business and errands in the nearby areas so it’s perfect for me.
The room is generous in living space, quiet, clean and tidy and the linens are great, but the cantilevered table is already sagged (both in the 2 rooms I occupied) and it had to be fixed. That's the price of modern design if it’s not properly built or executed. It is maybe a small thing for others but being me working in architecture and interior design industry, I find it somehow annoying. The mini kitchen is surely an added treat with a sink you can use aside from the one in the toilet. In the absence of a restaurant, this feature is very convenient. There’s a small fridge too to store your drinks. The toilet is spacious and nicely lighted. Oh, by the way, the rain shower is an excellent feature, you won’t always get this in a mid-range priced hotels, but I wish the shower curtain is a bit longer to contain the water splash inside the shower area. Also, I wish the property would stop using shampoo in a sachet as our country is one of the biggest contributor to the single-use plastic pollution in the planet. I’m sure there must be an alternative solution to this.
First impression is always important to me. So far, the hotel is highly recommended if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay. I will give it a 5/5 if not for the absence of a proper restaurant within the property. A coffee shop or a bar at least would be great where guests could get drinks and snacks, or some place for people to sit down and have a chat aside from the room itself. I will write more reviews when I come back. Looking forward to stay in this property again in the near future.
