High Hills Farm is a wonderful spot to get some rest and relaxation. Their location is very secluded and quiet; an easy drive from DFW. The cottages are very nice, modern, and comfortable. We stayed in the Great Southern Cottage and the added full size bath tub was such a great addition. The main building was equally nice, warm and welcoming, which is where the restaurant and bar were located. The outside area, heated pool, patio, and fireplace were equally wonderful. We sat outside on Saturday afternoon and enjoyed the warm fall weather and played cards. All our meals were outstanding. Dinner both Fri and Sat were very delicious, as were our breakfasts Sat and Sun AM. They also made a nice, light lunch especially for the four of us. Our hosts were very friendly and met all of our requests. In all, I would highly recommend HHF for a wonderful, relaxing getaway.
My bestie and I were fortune enough to find this wonderful diamond in the rough. We stayed in the bluebonnet bungalow and it was beautiful. Fully updated with modern furnishings and very comfortable king size bed. Quiet and quaint. There was a nice pool and vineyard on property. The staff were very attentive and pleasant! The restaurant was amazing! Breakfast was included in the room rate. We will definitely be back!
My husband and I just celebrated his birthday weekend at High Hill Farm and it was superb! Sharon and Jason have done such a wonderful job with this beautiful place. From the peaceful walks on the vast acreage and grounds, to the yummy food, this place was a true gem! They have a pool, outdoor fireplace area to sit and relax, and a vineyard! We can't wait to go back!
We had a single night to get away for a little anniversary trip so took a chance on High Hill Farm since it's only about a 30 minute drive from home. We booked a cabin, dinner and breakfast for our short stay and headed over. Our expectations were truly exceeded in every way! We arrived and were promptly met by the owner with champagne and wine and a sampler tray of crabmeat dip, grapes, olives, cheese (smoked Gouda, Gruyere and Manchego) and a miniature baguette. We settled in to our cabin which was very well appointed. After relaxing and exploring the grounds, we changed for dinner. We started with a fresh kale and tomato salad with ricotta cheese and vinaigrette dressing. Dinner followed with entrees of leek and corn ravioli with lemon ricotta and the chef's special spin on an old southern classic - fried chicken! Chocolate chip bread pudding and a peach crisp for dessert ended our meal. All was excellent. We then enjoyed a night swim and relaxed around the outdoor fireplace while drying off. After a great night's sleep, we had been given options to have breakfast in our cabin, the dining room or on the terrace. We chose outside on the terrace overlooking the pool and vineyard. Orange juice and coffee with homemade bran muffins was followed by a breakfast skillet with salad, egg, prosciutto and potatoes. Everything was very satisfying and a great start to the day. Afterward, we sat and talked on the terrace until it was time to check out. All in all, a wonderful and relaxing stay. If you're looking for excitement and non-stop activities, look elsewhere. If you're truly looking to get away and disconnect from the world then this is the place for you. We didn't have enough time to take advantage of all the walking trails or skeet shooting but will visit again and hope to do that in the future. Many thanks to Sharon, Jason and Erin!
I have very rarely written online reviews, but I feel compelled to do so to share how outstanding High Hill Farm is. I am so glad that I found High Hill Farm featured in Texas Monthly magazine. The grounds of the facility are absolutely stunning: rolling hills complete with a elegant pool nestled next to a charming bar/restaurant and small vineyard. As I grew up in the northeast, High Hill Farm felt like a small piece of home tucked in the middle of East Texas.
The food and cocktails were absolutely delicious, as the chef injected some creativity on some classic dishes. We had originally made reservations for dinner elsewhere for the second night of our stay, but quickly decided to cancel them after our first dinner. The food and atmosphere were so great that we found no need to leave. The lodging is a series of quaint bungalows stocked with first class amenities and an extremely comfortable bed.
However, the best part of our stay was meeting Jason and Sharon, the proprietors, who could not have been more gracious or accommodating. We felt more like lucky house guests at a vast estate than hotel guests. We were also completely blown away by Jason and Sharon's shared passion and vision for the future High Hill Farm. Plus, Jason makes a delicious bloody mary to go along with a great breakfast. Overall, the rooms, food and drinks were very reasonably priced for the quality of the experience.
We will be back to celebrate our next special occasion and I will be raving about this stay for weeks. Simply put, High Hill Farm is a very special place.
