Fake room picture.
Establishment not recommended for foreign travelers. This home of local workers is not adapted to the standards of the hotel industry. The incessant comings and goings of residents and their lack of care and education can still pass... But the indescribable din you are exposed to is unbearable. The intense noise produced in the middle of the night and early in the morning keeps you awake.
No windows but large openings in the wall that lead to the corridor. Light and noise are omnipresent.
Although management has been warned for a long time, the situation is getting worse.
The young receptionist, very helpful and friendly, can not restrain the customer who flees.
Take the time to explore nearby to find a peaceful room and sleep to your wish.
The hotel is located less than 100 m from the Thailand-Myanmar gate, and, considering the visa-runs to Myanmar are now "forbidden", guess not so many foreigners would end up here (and would stay in Mae Sai in general). Anyway, for the price of 450 baht it was reasonably OK - no outside window, but a large room with table and 2 beds, in a very central location. I needed to work online more than to travel on those days, so ended up staying for 3 days in this hotel, and exploring Mae Sai when I had a free time. One night I was hanging out in a local bar open till late (not so hard to find, as it's very quiet even at 11pm otherwise, but you'll have to walk and check the side-streets), and came back well after midnight - the gate was closed, but there was someone to open the door in the lobby, so no problem at all. The wi-fi was good enough for online work to make me not willing to try another hotel (spending time and risking to get a poorer connection). The customers seemed to be mostly Thais going for some of their business to or from Myanmar. The receptionists weren't overly welcoming, but weren't unfrendly too - just a business attitude, nothing wrong at all for this type of hotel. There's a restaurant downstairs, and there's Tesco Express across the street, where you can get all the usual 7-11 stuff plus they offer their foods which are about to expire in a few days for 1/4-1/2 the normal price, so basically one can even have a ready-to-eath meal for 10-20 baht. Street food is also available but not until very late. During the day time, the street in front of the hotel turns to the market, but the sellers do not seem to be overly focused on the foreigners.
I just left the Top North quite pissed off. My room with a fan was 50 degrees at 3pm. Yes, 50 degrees. I felt sick it was so hot and could not stay in the room. Though the very money minded owner's wife said she would refund my money (I was just there 2 hours and didn't mess the place up) she only wanted to give me half of it back when I gave her the key. And she cheated me on the food too.
For the same price it is far better to go down along the river to the Yeesun Hotel. Quiet and better.
The hotel itself needs work, but it's the cheapest you can find in Agoda at $9/room. To be sure, ask to see the room first before checking in. It's a few steps away from the border (which is really what matters) and right smack in the thick of the market scene. A fair value for an overnight stay.
Feb . 2016 . I ve been here in 1989 for one Night , it was OK . From Outside , it looks good this Hotel . The Room , as you can see on my Photos , everything is very old and worn . The Location is good , if you want to travel to Myanmar , it is just a Minute to walk . And thats it . On the first Day , after Breakfast i went to the Room , and the Door was wide open and nobody was there . My Cameras and Luggage was still there . The Room was not made , the Roomkeeper was not there . And now , why it is terrible : When I arrived , I told the Staff , I would like to stay here for 2 Days . There is a big Visa sign , but he doesnt accept Visa . I payed in cash 900 Baht for 2 Nights . Unfortunately I did not asked for a Recipt . After 2 Days when I checked out , he told me i payed only for one Night . I have been to Hundreds of Hotels in my Life , this never happened to me .
STAY AWAY FROM HERE ! Opposite is an other Hotel .
