Perhentian Island Resort has gorgeous beach and environment, however, plenty things were disappointing.
The confirmation reservation email indicated that the earliest boat transfer from K. Besut Jetty to Perhentian is 9am. Unfortunately PIR office at K. Besut Jetty open around 9.10am. The arrangement for the boat transfer was chaotic.
Check-in at PIR around 11am, check-in took very long time for no reason. We chilled at beach deck after check-in as room is not ready.
We snorkeling in-front of Resort. We saw stingray, crown fish, snappers, beak fish, turtle, grouper, parrot fish, crab, sea cucumbers etc. Perfect for family retreat.
Placed order first lunch around 12:45pm, and it took nearly an hour for my son’s fish & chips being served. Almost every meals during our stay experienced long waiting, the waiting staff just do not care at all. Only one Nescafé machine and caused long queues to get a cuppa. Sadly, it went malfunction.
Monitor lizards, red tails squirrels, white-face monkeys roaming around the resort which is beautiful. It serves good chill out ambient for kids even adults.
Room desperately needed renovation. Furniture’s chipped out here and there in many corners. Safe-box is not screwed and fixed, so wonder what it serve for? Basin clogged but the maintenance staff fixed it at very short time, thumbs up for the guys. Housekeeping is terrible, not replace toiletries for a day out of four day during our stay. Drainage in bathroom has smell in night time. There was a bowl and spoon at the entrance deck of our room since day 1 check in, and it remains there even till we check out.
Without WiFi at room is ok, but will be please install some WiFi access points at communal area like restaurant and beach deck.
The resort do not sell beer and other alcohol drinks. If you like a booze, can go to The Barat Restaurant which around 10 minutes walk from the resort.
There was an accident, which a fellow guest dive from the jetty and hurt himself. I and another two fellow guests helped the guy and lifted him to the boat and sent to Perhentian Kecil Island for treatment. The guy sent to K. Besut for further treatment due to limited and basic medical services in the island. The resort does not provide training to their staff in handling emergencies. I have asked the reception staff for two consecutive morning after the guest sent to hospital, to follow up the condition of the fellow guest. Unfortunately, the front desk staff replied same answer which they do not know at all.
The resort has beautiful Malay architecture which is good selling point. However, it need upgrading and renovation, and more essentially to retrain it staff in hospitality.
For me, the resort has perfect location but ruins by the hospitality.
