PIR has beautiful beaches and clear sea water. the food is also delicious and there are many options.Room are just comfortable.
staff very helpful and always smile especialy from the restaurant & receptionist.pool clean. only the resort area has dry leaves as in ever swept. there is a new construction underway in the starting area to the PIR. looks unattractive with such seemingly irregular conditions. overall, we enjoy staying at PIR & will come again!
These guys are trading entirely on location. The resort is a total dump - in every aspect (rooms, restaurant, grounds, pool, everything!) A total dump. So many things did not work or broke while we were there. Everything about the place is shabby - everything They are charging about US$100 per night and they should be charging less than half of that. No management in sight. Smacks of a place inherited by the next generation that is only interested in collecting the monthly profits. The beach is nice - that's it.
Amazing resort! The resort is the best of Perhentian Island. It is a marine park so you can swim with small sharks, turtles, manta rays, and uncountable fish just at the beach of the hotel. The water is turquoise, sandy beach.. The hotel is perfectly situated, the beach is the best of Perhentian and maybe of all Malaysia.
Amazing breakfast with a variety of choice: Malaysian and western food (pancakes, croissants etc). The buffet is varied and the food is tasteful.
The staff is helpful. The room is big, cleaned everyday, and beautiful. The AC works fine.
There is a jungle in the hotel with a trek, a swimming pool, badminton and tennis courts.
It is 5 min away by taxi boat from Kecil (the small Island of the Perhentian). Taxi boats are available everyday, days and nights.
A breathtaking environment.
We stayed 3 nights at this hotel in May and will share the good and the not so good!
The rooms are very nice - a kind of cabin style but modern inside with AC, fridge, kettle, water and tea and coffee. Each room has a balcony too.
The resort is shared with a lot of wildlife! Monkeys, monitor lizards, bats, and also insects (bring repellent!) we saw a lot of animals within the complex
Breakfast was good with a wide variety of food choices both local and western
The beach is by far the best on the island - beautiful sand and clear waters to swim and snorkel
There is a sport activity centre to arrange snorkel or dive trips on site too
Small mini market on site
Not so good:
The grounds of the hotel are not well maintained - the pool and surrounding is unkempt and looks a bit dirty - we didn't use it as we prefer the beach anyway
No alcohol allowed on site
Service is friendly but quite slow
Wifi not always available - but typical for these islands
The main grumble is the walk to the other beach to find restaurants and places to drink alcohol in the evening. It is only a 10-15 minute walk but up a lot of stairs along the rockside and there are no lights. You must bring a torch.
The walk (if I had been travelling alone) would have been restrictive for me - although it is unlikely there would be any problems, I may not have felt very safe to walk there at night. If anyone has restricted mobility it would be impossible.
The islands are stunning and I would recommend going. The other resorts on Besar are on a coral beach not nearly as nice as the one at this resort. The other beaches are sharp so take some swim shoes. The one at this resort is sand and you can snorkel to see the coral.
We then took a water taxi for 10 RM each to continue our trip on the other island of Kecil.
It’s really sad to see an hotel with so much potential but nobody to take care of it. It seems that the hotel has no manager. The rooms are really expensive for what we get. Really small rooms, bad smell in the bathroom, dirty swimming pool and the area around it as well. With such a beautiful environment, it’s really a waste. They are going to build more amenities, but they should really focus already on what is there and how to improve it... adding a gym will not improve the hotel if you don’t take care of it, it will just destroy the nature around a little more.
Finally, as we are on an island relying on the beauty of underwater sea life, taking care of the environment should being of one of your priority. What about removing your plastic bottles from the rooms and using glass bottles and glasses instead? I don’t think it’s such a huge effort to do.
