Les étoiles sont éclairées pour que chacun puisse un jour retrouver la sienne. —Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

After a tough road trip and having camped Berber-style at the foot of the dunes of Ergh Chebbi for a week, we arrived at this oasis called 'Kasbah Chez Michel' where we were welcomed heartily by the lovely lady of the house - who could teach you some on self-reliance by the way :).

At Auberge Derkaoua you feel a bit like being in a lovely fairytale. A very charming & peaceful place: cozy shaded corners where you can have tea, winding pathways so every room has a bit of privacy, surrounded by vegetation, a clean and big swimming pool, hearty food in a cozy setting. Although somewhat modest the room felt spacious and inviting.

Great overall experience • Good value for money • Definitely recommended!

Unfortunately we only booked one night, which we regretted immediately after arriving there.

Situation is good an oasis in the desert. However the rooms need improving. The bathrooms are very basic with poor lighting and the bedroom has no place to leave clothes.

Food was good and plenty of it. The outdoor dining area near the swimming pool was good. It was nice to have a bar too.

Overall, this hotel needs to improve their rooms to stay attractive to European visitors.

We really loved our experience here. The hotel is off the beaten track in the desert, a little oasis, with eccentric winding pathways to the rooms and with lovely unexpected gardens and sitting areas. The food was excellent and the staff engaged and helpful. The rooms are dark, as this makes them cooler in the desert. Some of our group had rooms with plumbing issues, but the staff was eager to solve the problem or move the guests to another room. Another world for us; we got home to snow and minus temperatures. :(

We spent one Night at the Auberge and one night out in the Desert, though they allowed us to keep our room at the Auberge the entire time. The pool was very nice and we used it often. They provided fresh towels at the pool. They also had a well stocked bar. The service and food were excellent. We headed to the dessert in the evening. The accommodations there were great, very clean considering there is sand everywhere. Fully working western toilets. The food out in the dessert was gourmet. In the morning before sunrise we were taken by camel to large dunes to watch the sun come up. We return to a full breakfast before departing back to the Auberge. The Staff was very friendly and always wanting to make sure we were happy with our stay.
