Stayed here for 4 weeks and loved it. The location at the quieter end of the beach is so peaceful but a ten minute walk will take you to the busier end with bars and restaurants.Train station nearby for trips to Galle etc.
The room spacious, the bed large and very comfortable and the bathroom has an electric shower that works every time! Our room had no ac but a good ceiling fan and the breeze from the sea was lovely.
Talin and his family are so friendly and helpful, I even learned a little Sri Lankan language.
For a peaceful base this is the place to stay.

Fooled by positive reviews on Tripadvisor and Booking, we booked worst and most expensive night in whole trip. Room was smelly, stuffy, dark, cluttered, and noisy. Balcony was a joke. Food was overpriced and drowned in ...ketchup. ! You arrive there just to be milked out of cash, and cash is only thing that they care for. Place is poor even for Sri Lanka standards. There are better and cheeper places around. Room was 60$ per night.

At our three week trip to Sri Lanka, Tamaro was the best place we stayed. Room was very clean, AC worked and the breakfast was good (bread, eggs, fresh fruits, tea). Owners were very friendly and helpfull.
The beach is quiet and you can just relax and enjoy life under palm trees :-).

We stayed hear for 2 nights towards the end of a 3 week stay in Sri Lanka and were delighted with this beach side accommodation. Having read the previous review we find it hard to believe - the couple who run the guest house were kind and very accommodating, they were both of a gentle disposition.
We had a room at the front without a sea view but with A/C - the room and bathroom were spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. We could hear the road and the sea neither of which disturbed us. The sound of waves was a delight to hear.
We didn't need a sea view as there was ample seating on the beach and under cover as part of their guest house. There was plenty of shaded areas, with loungers and parasols for guests use. The sea was a little rough at times but definitely my favourite swims of our trip. I went in at least 10 times in the few days we stayed there and felt safe.
The accommodation is approx 3km from the Hikkadura - however we much preferred this quiet part of the beach. We walked along the shore line and back a couple of times and although this was nice to do - the main part of the tourist area was very busy.
We had a good breakfast both mornings - on the last morning they were happy to provide this earlier normal due to our departure time. We had lunch on two occasions which was well prepared.
We would definitely recommend this as a place to relax and enjoy the beautiful beach and sea.

I submitted a negative review of Tamaro Beach Resort in March of 2017. Talin, the owner, responded to my review on March 22 with a number of lies so I felt I needed to respond to help other travelers avoid major problems at Tamaro Beach Resort. In order to update my review, my original review has to be removed.

I met with Talin and his wife at their "resort" in March. We agreed (and shook hands) that I would stay one night upstairs and the second night I would move to a room with a beach view. They even showed me the interior of the beach view room. After my first night upstairs, I packed up the next morning, to move to the beach view room as agreed upon. Talin was not at the hotel but his wife told me that moving to the beach view room would not be possible. Talin and I talked on the phone and I told him that his new proposal was not at all what we agreed upon and shook hands on earlier. I had had enough of the lies so I checked out immediately and was left with walking the hot beach with a backpack trying to find a room for one night. I believe what happened was that Talin received a better deal from a booking agency AFTER I spent one night at his hotel and then decided to lie to me or throw me under the bus as they say. In his response to my review, Talin said I wanted to stay two weeks at his hotel. When I first met Talin, I told him I only wanted to stay two NIGHTS because I needed to go to Colombo to renew my visa as it was about the expire. (In Sri Lanka, you can only renew your visa in Colombo.) Talin even mentioned in his response that I should not renew my visa and just leave the country. Talin, you got caught in your own lies. Why would I want to stay two weeks at your hotel if you knew I had to renew my visa several days later? Talin, you claimed I was rude to your wife when I checked out, but you would not know because you weren't there. Your wife was rude to me when she tried to extort more money from me than we agreed upon. (more lies!) I did not speak loudly to you on the phone as you claimed, but I was firm in letting you know what you were proposing to me was not at all what you promised me when we first met. Talin also claimed in his response that I was old and don't remember things well. Nothing wrong with my memory Talin! Insults and lies--that is what you will get at Tamaro Beach Resort!

I would highly recommend staying AWAY from Tamaro Beach Resort for the following reasons:

1) The owners are rude, will try to extort more money from you than agreed upon, and they will lie to you.

2) The upstairs rooms are VERY close to Galle Road which is busy and loud night and day. They also get quite hot.

3) Their menu is limited and expensive.

4) Feel like a cold beer on a hot day? No alcohol served at Tamaro Beach Resort!

5) The waves pound or break very hard near Tamaro Beach Resort. Not ideal for swimming.

6) There is very little shade at Tamaro Beach Resort.

7) There are PLENTY of other hotels to choose from on the beach!

I traveled in Sri Lanka for six weeks and met many friendly, honest people, however, my experience at Tamaro Beach Resort was extremely negative! Enjoy your stay in Sri Lanka but do yourself a favor and stay away from the Tamaro Beach Resort!
