It’s our second time in Sri Lanka, this time we stay 1 month and 1/2 so our visa expired and we had to go to Colombo for visa renewal.
we travel by train from Colombo Fort towards Matara on the coastal line, which is really beautiful. The train was rather full so we decided to get off at Kalutara south.

Although there are some 5 stars hotels, Kalutara is not a well-known touristic location like for instance Benthota or Mirissa, but it’s certainly worth a visit.
At the railways station a tuk-tuk driver took us to this nice hotel, absolutely a good choice. we had a warm welcome by the owner Mr. Nelson and his son Nihal. All the staff is nice and friendly. Don’t expect night life. whet we enjoyed mostly was to talk to Mr. Nelson, a very interesting person who lived and worked for 13 years in Austria 🇦🇹
this hotel is facing the ocean, so we have an amazing view from our room, spacious rooms with ac and fan, comfortable bed, they change bed-linen and towels every day.
Great value for money. If you’re looking for a quiet place to relax with a private beach, we recommend this place. they also have a small swimming pool.
They suggested half board so we had breakfast and dinner included: they cook delicious 😋 and fresh food, and they give a big quantity. we were very satisfied so we took also our lunches here. We only stayed 2 nights because we wanted to visit all the coast but we wished we could stay longer.
The owner is building 3 new cabanas so we’re looking forward to come here again next year and stay in a cabane.
Thank you very much to all of you, we will certainly come here again.

My Wife and I (38 and 24) visited this Hotel for our Honeymoon, in January.
We were a bit apprehensive, because there are not many reviews written. Hopefully this will help people choose, if they are checking Trip Advisor.

Location:

The Hotel is located on a beautiful clean beach. We did not have to share it with anybody else! The Sea can be rough at times with an undercurrent, but if you swim in the coves surrounded by rocks, you will be fine... Don't go out further than you can stand up!
Kalutara is not a 'touristy' location. There are not any Bars and Restaurants like you would see in the UK. The surrounding area is quite run down, but that kind of adds to the experience... Be very careful not to be ripped off, in the actual Town!

Hotel facilities:

Swimming pool is lovely. The photographs really don't do it justice, as it is actually bigger than it looks in pictures, and surrounded by beautiful plants.
WiFi is very good.
The rooms are lovely and clean. View from every balcony is on to the beach.
There is a nice restaurant / breakfast area, and also an upstairs lounge, where we spent most evenings reading and watching films on our tablet. Alcohol is served at the Hotel, but please don't travel here expecting to go to other Bars... They honestly don't exist.... At all!!

Food and drink:

Breakfast was fantastic. Every day, we had a basket of warm bread, with butter and jam. A piece of fruit (pineapple, melon etc) and either an omelette or fried egg. Served with tea or coffee.
Dinner was a mixture of local food and European food. Soup as a starter, followed by a main course. My Wife loved the Chicken Cordon Bleu, with chips!! There were also Fish dishes, Rice dishes etc.
Lunch is not included, but very competitively priced. Banana Fritters were a personal favourite!

Things to do:

Either book via the Hotel or Uplanka Tours. We stayed for 9 nights, and did the Galle tour, Kandy tour and also a half day on Bentota beach (calmer sea) and the local waterfall.
Both the Hotel and Uplanka Tours will also organise airport transfers for you, at a good price.

Summary:

We loved this hotel. If you are looking for somewhere to simply relax for a week or two, this place is ideal... Please don't travel expecting a nightlife scene!
The Hotel owner (Nelson) is a lovely man, as is his Son. Both will bend over backwards to ensure you have everything you need. Nelson would often sit and chat with us, in the evening.
While we were there, Nelson invited us to an anniversary memorial lunch for his Wife, who passed away a couple of years ago. This was a wonderful gesture, and we were honoured to attend.

My Wife and I would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel to anybody from the UK that would like a relaxing getaway.

Although quit small, everything is available. Open the room window and you hear and see the sea and beach at only 50 meters from your backyard. Open the room's door .and you have acces to the beautiful back garden and swimming pool. No airco in the room but no inconvenience because the nice seabreeze will pass through the room. A big thumb-up to Nelson and his son for managing this beautiful location.

Tastefully decorated A prima is a real treat. With a private balconyroom, the sea on one side and swimming pool the other, this hotel is a lovely quiet, safe place to be. The hotel is very clean throughout and provides lovely food. Just a tuk tuk ride away from kalutara, once all the surrounding hotels are completed this place will be a sell out. Lovely management and staff. A professionally run hotel, would definitely recommend and revist. ...Thanks for having me :)

Stayed here for just a night. We wanted somewhere in this area that was cheap and cheerful as we were out all day and just needed a bed to sleep in. The hotel was very clean and great value for money think we paid £20 for double room. The room and bathroom were very clean, they was a huge balcony with chairs looking over the beach to the sea. there was a swimming pool with sunbeds. A covered sitting area with free tea and cake in the afternoon. The owns were very friendly. We were the only English people staying there.
