Mahaweli View hotel has met us with lots of signs on the wall that had been left by previous customers. Though the signs were praising the good hospitality and the service of the staff, it turned out to be the worst level of service we have faced with during our stay in Sri Lanka. Towels were not in the room and when asked for them, the staff brought the unfreshed ones with the strong smell of tobacco.
Breakfasts can be strange here as the staff selectively serves fresh juices: one morning our table was not served while the rest of the tables were and when we asked for the juice, our request was ignored. Laundry turned out to be dissapointed: the staff has collected it from us and the next morning it returned back uncleaned claiming the laundries in town were closed... The hotel staff had been seeing us on the evening night after we returned from the sightseeing and did ignored to say, the laundry was impossible to do during that day (in fact, we have reason to believe they simply forgot to do and decided to screw it up their way). The hotel does not have any warm blankets, so if you are happened to drop in during the shower season when the temperature gets cooler at evenings and nights, the only way you can keep yourself from getting freezed is to put all your warm clothes you have taken with you with the trip. Electricity in the hotel was inreliable as it went on and off several times during a day. Mosquito nets are not provided at all.
Travellers and tourists visiting Sri Lanka's inlands probably know that the easiest way to visit those places is to hire a driver who will be taking you around. Our driver assured us he had negotiated the best price of 4500 rps per night in this hotel as the manager of Mahavelli View hotel is his best friend. Booking through a hotel booking web-site, the same hotel category can be as low as 3000 rps - we had done such bookings ourselves before getting to Mahavelli View hotel.
When we asked for a discount giving the reasons why the price seemed to be unfair taking into account the above uncomfortances, the crew went on impolite manner claiming the price that had been negotiated by our driver was the final one and further negotiations come to nowhere but will disturb the other guests.
I do personnally believe this was pretty unfair and the story has to be shared.
To those, who does not care on the price-quality, please, ignore that post. For the rest who would like to have positive emotions - do not rely on what a driver tells you and proceed through web-site bookings on your own. I believe, you will get a fair price for that kind of quality spots. Our stay in Mahaweli View was totally dissapointing.
