This is a family run hotel located right on the Calangute beach, North Goa. It is spread over a huge area with a lawn and a swimming pool and a restaurant that faces the sea.
- Though none of the rooms are sea facing, the resort is located on the Calangute beach. Basically you can walk from your room to the sea in a minute. And after bathing in the sea, have a beer sitting on their sundecks. All the time watching the blue sea crashing against the shore.
- The room service is very prompt. Instead of selling mineral water bottles, the hotel provides bottles of drinking water in every room for free.
- Compared to other hotels in the similar range Chalston is reasonably priced (emphasize here is its not cheap).
- (Beside the fact that its located right on the beach) The hallmark of the hotel, according to us, was its restaurant. Great food, wide variety, superbly cooked – be it anything – continental or Indian.
- The restaurant is casual and we were in our shorts and slippers while having our meals. However, on the night of the 31st with all the decorations, menu, songs things got a little formal and the casual vibe was missing. Also, the dinner was started quite late and there was long queue. But the bursting of crackers at the crack of New Year was elating indeed.
- We were given a ground floor room on the lawn side. Being a sun loving person, I found that these rooms don’t receive the sun and are very dark during the day. Again, one doesn’t spend too much time in the hotel room.
After hearing a lot about the Property from my friends as well as reading positive reviews, I chose Charleston for part of my Goa Trip with family. Although, Eva Maria D'souza sounded comfortable and hospitable on the phone, the entire experience after check-in changed.
Called thrice for the Housekeeping to mop-clean the Room Floor (because my toddlers would like to walk barefoot) but when nobody arrived, I decided to visit the Reception myself where I was told off by Eva Maria with a rude in-different reply to wait in the room for the Housekeeping. I thought she might be overloaded.
Later, coming back from Aguada Fort, while looking for a parking spot, I found Dominic D'souza and requested him to help me find a parking spot. He rudely replied to back off and look for a parking spot myself. I expected he might want me to talk to only staff but he did not redirect me to any staff.
During the 2 nights we stayed there, the breakfast tasted good but the Room was very small and the charges that we paid for 2 adults and 2 children seemed overpriced. When my wife expressed her desire to go to the beach, both Eva Maria & Dominic rudely and vehemently refused to give us any Beach Towels with the reason that people forget the Beach Towels on the Beaches. I observed them giving the Beach Towels to their Caucasian Guests.
This was the moment I got a confirmation that their behaviour to us is due to their psychological stereotyping about Indians resulting in racial profiling. I did not say a word and advised my wife to enjoy the Beach without the Towels.
I must admit I did not receive any such discriminatory behaviour in any of the South Goa properties.
During breakfast before checking out, I smiled to Dominic "Hey, Good Morning. I want to speak with you for 5 minutes." He replied "But I do not want to speak with you." and went away. I walked up to my breakfast table and kept wondering the reason for the D'souza siblings' ego. I would pray to God to continue giving them money and good looks because they will not be able to survive even one single day without either. God help them. Amen!
We stayed at Chalston from 14-18 Dec 19 and definitely, for sure we will be staying again at this beautiful resort. And special mention.. Rosanna really helped in smooth booking and gave us sea view room (S-21)
Pros: Nice location, Excellent restaurant, prompt room service and housekeeping...
Cons: no welcome drink, very lukewarm reception..minor issue that needs to be looked in to
All I can say after having visited Goa every year since college is that why didn’t I stay here before?
This place is awesome. It is peaceful while being bang in the middle of Calangute and Baga. Centrally located almost like a private Beach property. Great food. Nice Beach side restaurant and Bar. Cosy Swimming pool. Table tennis and pool table. An amazing Spa named Sparadise nearby. All happening areas are easily accessible.
We stayed at Beach Cottage 14 which is the best place to stay at this place as it has garden and ocean views.
The staff is polite and courteous. Front desk is amazing. Room Service is flawless. Housekeeping staff did a great job. Rosanna was awesome and we are thankful to her and the team for having extended us a complimentary late check out (as good as half a day!) this was unexpected and much appreciated :)
I recommend this property to friends, families and couples. If you are lazy like me then this place is awesome because it has everything u would ever want. Close your eyes and just go for it!
I will be back for sure. Thank you so much to the entire team at Chalston who made our casual vacation memorable.
Location- 10/10 Great, best in Calangute.
Facilities - 8.5/10,
Pros: About 300sqft superior room good for 3pax, clean room, toilet & linen, attentive service staff & Mr Chalston himself, good food, seafood preparation is good, complimentary breakfast is just thr right spread for Indians & foreigners, restaurant is on the beach, well laid out, sea view, clean & staff is very attentive, direct access to beach from the restaurant sitout, close to market, reasonable and ready taxis at hotel, taxi stand right outside, intercom works, reception responds, restaurant responds, swimming pool small but clean, plenty of clean beach loungers & chairs, greenery, palms, flowering trees around.
Cons: No exhaust fan in toilets, low water pressure in toilet spray (Chalston should install hydro-pneumatic supply plumbing for water supply, that should solve the water pressure problem, will actually save water, energy & cost) , vegetarian options in menu are limited though they do try to give items outside the menu too, scrambled eggs not so well made (I suggest they should see how Indian Coffee House makes scrambled eggs).
Prices: Better book directly on their website, that would probably be cheaper than any aggregator website. Tariff on their website is inclusive of taxes. If you are booking for 3/4 pax, book a room for 2 pax and inform the hotel about extra pax - that will be +1500/- for the bed & BF of the extra pax. Aggregator website will add taxes & would ask you to pay extra charges for extra pax at hotel.
Food & Drinks are reasonably priced, not cheap. E.g. Heineken 330ml is ₹180/-. Theirs a fridge in the room which you can stock with your own stuff and consume within the room.
Provision stores: Medicine & provisions store is 800m away.
