nice area, little uphill location guarantees excellent views on the pacific ocean. the hotel has multiple pools and a very friendly service team. you can relax and refresh, going to the beach is not far bit uphill walk in the sun gets a little exhausting
We stayed here for a 5 night family vacation. Everything was fantastic! Staff was very friendly. The pools were nice. Since we were there in October the pool was not all that active. The restaurant was a great choice for breakfast and we had a delicious lunch on our day of arrival. The Dana Point area is absolutely beautiful and worth exploring. It is close to both LA and San Diego.
We were expecting that all the services they advertise on their website would be available but almost all the “resort services” (bar and cafe near the pool, kinda camp, etc) were shut as we were apparently in the “off season” in November. Someone did not tell their billing department who charge the exact same resort fee even though the services are curtailed
This is a beautiful location and a very nice property. We were excited to stay for our anniversary. The valet service was excellent and friendly. Other than those things, there is a lot of opportunity for improvement. Our family left us a a bottle of champagne and some treats and asked the front desk if they could arrange nicely in our room. When we entered the room we found the Trader Joe's bag set on the dresser. We went out to the pool on Monday and there was no service for drinks or food. We were told the pool was technically closed because it was "off-season". We ordered room service which was prompt and the food was tasty. Our stay was 3 nights and our room was only serviced once and only because we called and scheduled a housekeeping service. On day of check-out, we called and were able to get a 1 pm check-out but housekeeping, who never came to the door before, knocked 3 times before 11 am and then the front desk called to ask when house-keeping could come and make up the room. Other than the valets, the customer service for a resort location seemed lacking and not polished. I did not feel like I was at a luxury beach resort for a special occasion.
The general vibe of the hotel is relaxing and pleasant. It's not gonna blow anyone's socks off but it's nice. This was our second time to the property for a quick getaway. On our arrival the guy at the front desk tried to upgrade us to a room for $50 that would have been more expensive than if we just chose that room in the first place. Keep in mind that there is a combination of the resort fee + valet fee. Resort is $29 and valet is $39. It's seems so lame that they can't just combine them. There are zero other parking options for the property so valet is your only option. This property really seems like more of a business/conference property. I don't recommend this property for a pool day. They swear the pool heated to 81 degrees but it doesn't seem like it. While we were in the pool other people commented that they were surprised we could swim in the cold water. Also nobody is at the pool to serve ANYTHING. AT all! So don't go thinking your going to have a drink and relax poolside. There was no restaurant open in the evening. We ended up ordering food and it was a nightmare because the hotel won't let delivery people park to delivery to the lobby. They call you and tell you to come to the loading dock - wherever that is. Overall, I'd recommend somewhere else in the area depending on your trip.
