Other than the location, there is nothing I like about this KOA. Packed in like sardines. Less than 8 feet separate you and your neighbor. You share a 3-4 foot grass area that has 2 tables. No trees. We have a 24ft trailer and a F150. Even with parking the trailer right up to the road, there is no room to safely park our truck. The site has big dips and holes. We stayed in a great KOA in Springfield, MO just 3 weeks ago. This KOA makes me sad to be here.

BRAND NEW cabin is what got our attention when looking for a place to stay in the area. We were here two years ago and had a negative experience but we figured we would try it again since they had a new cabin, what could go wrong?! First look, it was very small but manageable. The queen bed was right inside the door along with the 4 person kitchen table and the “partial kitchen”, which consisted of a mini fridge, sink, and microwave. Then there was a side room with a full bunk bed and then the bathroom. The cabin was a little tight for a family of 5 but my biggest complaint was the lack of cleaning before our stay. I’m actually pretty sure it was not cleaned between guests. The floor was dirty, there was trash under the kitchen sink, the mirror had writing on it when it steamed up, meaning it wasn’t cleaned, the tub was completely clogged when we went to shower, we had to plunger it to get it to drain. If the tub was cleaned prior to our arrival wouldn’t they know the tub was clogged? Then there is the beds. The bed sheets on the queen bed weren’t even on the corners. After taking the comforter off we realized they had tried to put them on sideways which is why they wouldn’t stay on the corners so we had to remake the bed. Then on the bunk bed, the bottom sheets had what looked like a blood stain on them. Needless to say we had to sleep on top of the comforters. Very grossed out but had no other options but to stay. Other than the cabin disappointment, there was a fire ban. Which I completely understand but it would have been nice of them to post this information on their website or email a notice to us, so we knew ahead of time. The playground is ancient and doesn’t appear to be safe. The swimming pool is falling apart, literally. The tile pieces are all coming off the wall inside the pool. The concrete around the outside of the pool was no longer secured so it was very unsafe. The pool was very dirty and it was full of chemicals. Lastly, the go-carts, when we were there only 2 were working so not all of our kids could go. The best thing about this KOA is their employee Phillip aka Grandpa Q. He was a genuinely nice person and we were lucky enough to get to know him a bit. There are not many people like him in the world. He was running the go-carts when we were there and even though he was closing up he pulled the 2 go-carts out so our kids could ride them for a few. He was so nice and helpful. KOA should really appreciate him.

Close to Royal Gorge, reasonable priced compared to many hotels in the area and offers Kamping Kabins, free Wi-Fi, laundry room. would not recommend Café or amusement park. Has breakfast and coffee for a fee.
