Great cozy hotel to break a long drive. Very efficient and friendly staff, with special thanks to Janine for making sure I was able to check in late to a nice warm room! Will definitely be back on my next visit to Frasersburg
We had such a lovely stay at this Hotel, the staff were efficient and friendly, the room was comfortable and although the weather was cold, our stay was warm. The food was delicious, home-cooked fare - dinner and breakfast. We wish them every success for the future and encourage travellers to visit.
We travel on a BUDGET so this (Herberg) also known as The Grand Hotel was GOOD VALUE @ R520.00 per double room with FULL breakfast. Complete sports TV was available in the lounge with bar service so we were happy. Some rooms @ R660 have TV. The front verandah is excellent for SUNSET & SUNDOWNERS. There is bar service. Evening meal. Food was tasty and filling (chicken-pie, lasagne with salads etc, was just right for the day (Sunday)
We had room # 11 at the back with a garden and barbecue (braaiplek) just outside our room. Stayed on a sunday night so very quiet.
The butcher in Van Riebeeck Street next to the Spar has excellent karoo lamb (cash only but good price) \
All in all we had a good rest, good TV, good food and good sunsets so for those on a budget this tops the lot. thank you Margaret & Nicole.
Fortunately we only stayed here for 1 night. It was clean and OK for the 1 night but I would definitely not stay here again.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The room was very basic, Bed, side tables, chair and something to hang your clothes.
The shower was open, no division/ curtain. The toilet is right next to it and everything is wet after you showered. Also a very small shower head and it was very difficult to control the temperature of the water.
The rooms are not soundproof and you could hear everything going on around you, inside and out.
There are a lot of trucks driving through the town and you hear them throughout the night.
The curtains are very thin and do not keep the light out. So all in all not a good nights rest.
They had a conference in town and everything was fully booked. The conference was actually at the hotel and therefor they could not include the breakfast. Fortunately? Not high hopes for the food taking the rest into consideration.
Definitely not a 3 star!
Firstly, praise where it's due - the receptionist was very friendly and made a very good first impression.
Unfortunately we can't say the say for the room. There was no warning that showers only provide hot water for 4 minutes and then you have to wait 20 minutes for it to heat up again. Trying to set the temperature took 2 minutes - first scalding hot and then freezing cold. To top it off the shower head was broken.
On the whole the room looked clean, although walking barefoot from the bathroom to the bed left us with blackened feet. The room was also very close to the railway so the noise of trains was disturbing late at night. DSTV was advertised, but there was only a TV available in a communal area.
Perhaps unfortunately for us we had been through Laingsburg before and had enjoyed very comfortable accommodation elsewhere at a cheaper rate (they were full this time). Consequently we had something to compare Gal-Gihon with and along with the above-mentioned grievances we were extremely disappointed.
It is unfortunately not a place I would recommend.
