We were extremely happy with this campground! Off the beaten path but close enough to Freeport and Panama City so you can easily get essentials and more! Site was long enough to accommodate our motorhome and tow and it was level. Nice roads nearby for bike riding. Had a nice pool and community room in lodge. Some permanent residents in small houses and campsites but plenty of spaces for people passing through. On a river and close to Choctawhatchee Bay. Fishing, kayaking and canoeing available. The campground had everything we needed and we would recommend this place to other campers.
I'm local and stopped by today to inquire about bringing my small (24) RV to the Outdoor Fest tomorrow. I was basically told that I wasn't welcome. I explained that I was hoping to be able to attend the festival and watch college football with family at the same time. I even offered to rent an RV site for a few hours but was told that I should drive my car instead. I couldn't understand how they could accommodate my family driving 3 separate cars but couldn't find room for my RV so I let them know that I would just watch the game at home. Of course I won't be back, my family won't be back and none of us will be recommending Live Oak RV Park to fellow campers. A $1,000+ mistake Live Oak. I hope your other business decisions are better thought out.
PS: The customer comes first or better said......the one with the money makes the rules !
We visited Live Oak Landing with two other couples and their RVs. We recently purchased our first travel trailer and this was the shakedown trip. We spent four nights and could not have imagined anything that the park could have done better.
The back-in site was at an angle to the road so backing the trailer in was no problem at all. The concrete pad was nice and level with plenty of room so we did not feel crowded by our neighbors. The site had both 30 and 50 amp electric connections, sewer, and water.
The water tasted pretty bad so I would suggest bringing water to drink or cook with. The taste of the water is due to no fault of the park; it's just how a lot of water in Florida tastes. Our site was next to the large fenced dog park but that created no problem and actually provided a number of occasions to visit with other campers.
The park is just a few minutes from Destin but a world away from all of the touristy kitsch that many of us try to avoid. Black Creek (really a small river) runs by the park and into the bay. When we go back (and we most certainly will) I will bring a kayak and do some fishing. The creek is beautiful.
One thing that is important since this trip was in July is that most of the sites have a lot of shade.
My rating is geared toward beach accessibility. If you like a more quiet, relaxing area away from the busy hotel resorts near Miramar and Destin, you will enjoy this place. It is an RV Park with cabins that are mobile homes.
We rented a cabin that sleeps 6 people. It was spacious with a bedroom downstairs (king size bed), a sofa bed by the living room and another full mattress in the loft area (upstairs). It was clean, fully furnished, you only need to bring yourself and clothes. The washer/dryer in the unit was very convenient. The kitchen was equipped with pots and pans, cutleries, eating utensils. It has a full bath/shower with towels for each person. Each homes have a balcony, picnic tables and grills.
The surrounding was very peaceful, with nature trail by the river. We did not use the covered pool, it was near the river area with good amount of tables with grills if you want to bring or grill foods, do a picnic while swimming.
If you do like to stay outdoor by the porch at night, I suggest you book one with a screened porch because of the mosquitoes.
The grocery store is an 11 minute drive which is not bad at all. There is a Hibachi/Chinese buffet with crab legs near the Publix which we ate on our first night. The food was descent, the place actually exceeded my expectation as I've have had bad Chinese food where I thought it will be great because of the diversity.
Hot water in the cabin runs out if you have someone who spends quite a bit of time showering. Also, for 6 people a 1 shower is not ideal. Especially when you have at least 2 people that needs to do #2, or 1 person is doing #2 and another needs to pee real bad.
There was no baking pan, we wanted to bake a big batch of bacon to save time and readily available for the kids, you know how that goes.
If you would like to have an easy, short walk to the beach while on vacation, this is not for you. The closest beach public access is the Blue Mountain Beach which is about 15 minutes drive, Sta. Rosa is 20 minutes, Miramar beach is 30 minutes while Destin is 1 an hour.
I also felt it was expensive being that far to the beach. It was really inconvenient to drive back and forth to the beach, carry a lot of things with you as compared to staying by the beach area where you can enjoy the beach first thing you wake up or stroll in early evening. Our trip was a family reunion, my relative were staying in Marimar Beach, we were always exhausted at the end of the day because we have to drive to get to our place, don't have the luxury of walking back to rest from the beach then go back when you want to anytime. If I wanted a nature trip I would have just stayed in the mountains here in the Carolinas. Accommodation was great but you go to Florida to enjoy the beach hence I rated it 3 stars.
Our family spent a wonderful long weekend getaway at Live Oak Landing located on the beautiful Choctawhatchee River/Bay. We stayed in one of their cute trendy cottages. Our cottage was very clean and cozy with a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and tastefully decorated. There are TV’s with cable in the bedroom and living room and reliable FREE Wi-Fi. I loved that every site has BBQ grills, picnic tables and fire rings (great for s’mores roasting) for cooking and enjoying the outdoor atmosphere. Live Oak has GREAT amenities for all ages from swimming, biking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and much more. I also love that Live Oak is pet friendly and has a fenced dog play area for all the fur babies. The staff at Live Oak was wonderful and very accommodating. I will stay here in a heartbeat whenever I’m back visiting Freeport or Destin. Thank you Live Oak staff for a wonderful weekend getaway!
