Since i wont stay anymore at JAMES HOTEL, wanted to stay some similar budget value hotel to stay everytime i fly to Miami area, and all good reviews for this hotel are right.
Located in the center of North Beach, you have quiet beach just 3 blocks from the hotel and many dinning options nearby, this is perfect area for argentines, since they will have iconic MANOLOS and BANCHERO among other local dinner options.
they have only 3 parking spots and if you miss the prime locations, you will be able to find free parking at street around the hotel (this is not easy task) so if you get the spot and wanna go south using the free miami beach ride you will have not any trouble after parking your car at hotel front side.
the rooms are more than OK, i just demand everything working, comfy bed and quite nights. And this hotel do the job perfectly.
the front desk work hours are limited, anyways there is a manager staying in one of the rooms by the nights to solve any problems that may you have ( i didnt have any).
All staff can speak spanish, they are very freindly, helping guys, specially GLENDA, you can ask anything before your arrival and she will answer your requests very fast and kindly. So dont forget to bring some sweet present for her.
the parcels delivered to hotels are being an issue since most of the hotels charges to receive any packages (most of them already 10 USD per piece) so since i need the hotel receive some online purchases asked to the hotel about this matter. and this is what you need to know.
They take as complementary service, the packages, but, since they dont have any room for storage, they ask to be sent to the hotel no more than 5 days before your arrival, (if your stay are longer than few days you can be sure they will receive and will let you know)
i guess this review will be first of several coming in the future, definitely i will be back to this hotel and see Glenda.
I very much want to give this little motel a great rating but just can’t. The staff are so lovely, the building charming and rooms clean. However there were just some issues we couldn’t overlook.
First of all the parking. We knew before we arrived that there wasn’t much parking onsite. However, with it being spring break when we were in Miami Beach it took us 45 minutes to find a spot which was very frustrating. Try to arrive earlier in the evening so you can find parking near by.
Second, the room was clean but laid out funny. We thought we were getting a room with 1 queen and 2 single beds but ended up in a room with 4 single beds. One which was around the corner near the kitchen. It was an odd layout especially since my husband and I weren’t even in the same room. One of the beds was also quite soft and didn’t seem that stable so only our youngest could sleep on it. The kitchen definitely needed updating as well, it was old and made the room seem dirty.
Third and biggest issue. We were in room 5 which overlooks the very busy road below. The windows are thin and you can hear cars and street noise very clearly all night long. I think any room would have been better than the one we were in as far as noise goes. Also gets really bright in the morning with not a lot to block light out.
If you are looking for a place to stay that is clean and cheaper than other places in Miami Beach this place is for you. There are just a few issues you need to know ahead of time.
Stopped for one night to avoid expensive Miami Beach. Two blocks from the beach which meant we caught a beautiful sunrise there.
Check in was friendly and efficient.
There was a problem with our room which I am not going to go into as it was solved to our satisfaction.
The out of office hours manager living on site was not reachable in the morning. We were told later that she had to hand out the last key at 4am which probably meant she was still asleep. That to me is not an acceptable excuse though. It delayed our departure by more than an hour.
From what we gathered by the way the courtyard was filled with bikes, peaks and toys, people seem to live there permanently. But with no one to be seen around it gives the place a bit of a funny feeling.
The room was ok for the night, but I would try my luck elsewhere on a different occasion.
Stayed at the Sorrento villas with my family and i was suprised when I saw how big the room/apartment was. We had 2 rooms with a kitchen. The kitchen had a stow, microwaveowen, toaster and coffeebrewer. The room was clean and tidy. The staff was friendly and nice. There are 5 complimentary parkingspaces, on first to come basis, otherwise you can park on the street outside. The sorrento villas are just 2 blocks from the beach, less than 5 minutes to walk. There are restaurants and groceriesstores in the area. The northbeach area are less crowded than southbeach.
If you want to be in Miami but South Beach is full or too expensive, Sorrento villas is an option. Located in North Beach, bus 119 or 120 takes you to South Beach in about 30 minutes, and 15-20 minutes to Haulover Beach. The villas are not villas but basic rooms, and require a bit of renovation. My room (5A) had with 2 single beds, small bathroom and small pantry with fridge, microwave, coffee machine and cloth rack. Daily cleaning, friendly owners, 2 washers and dryers available (costs 4 and 6 quarters). Downside: No pool, and I had a noisy room (aircon, traffic). Nice beach, shops and restaurants in 5 minutes walking distance, More shops and restaurants in 10 minutes. I would go here again, if only I could get a quiet room.
