This inn is a very easy walk to downtown, just far enough away from the hustle and bustle. We had a second floor room with a beautiful 4 poster bed. The bathroom was huge, shower had lots of hot water. Everything was very clean . The restaurant is amazing!! The seafood was incredible and the cocktails and Sangria were fabulous. Our waiter, " Jersey" was attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable regarding the menu. We could not believe our good fortune, a beautiful room and a wonderful restaurant as well. We are already planning our return trip!
We stayed at the Thistle Inn New Year's Eve. The room was "Victory Chimes". The room was near the side door on the first floor with easy access to the dining-room for dinner. The room was clean and the bed and linens were comfy. The natural light at the end of the day gave the room a soft glow. There was a coffee station outside our room. The inn was quiet and the check in/out process simple.
New Years Eve dinner was a set menu. Upon entering we were greeted by the host who took a Polaroid photo of us as a memento from the evening. This was a nice touch!
It was a little more sophisticated than my simple pallet however I enjoyed each course. The steamed clams with seaweed butter and port belly were terrific. The lentil soup was very tasty and being Italian it is to bring you good luck in the New Year! The grilled winter squash salad was something I would not typically order but it too was good. For my entree i enjoyed the seared black bass. The whole Roasted Quail not so much! The dessert was chocolate bread pudding - absolutely sinful! The wait staff was excellent. Knowledgeable, helpful and very much a part of our experience.
After dinner we sat at the bar and were completely entertained by the bartenders! We were showered with confetti and watched the bar tender create the "Flaming Lamborghini". A great dinner and stay at the Thistle Inn in Boothbay Harbor!!
We have been to Boothbay Harbor many times over the years and this is the first time we stayed at the Thistle Inn. What a pleasant experience. The innkeeper Anya is so friendly and tries to accommodate her guests. The rooms are very comfortable with a large bedroom and bath. Towels and toiletries were very good ascwas the service. The Inn has a comfortable bar and restaurant where you can dine inside or out. The menu has wonderful appetizers and entrees from flatbread pizza to lobster to steaks.
The Thistle Inn was so inviting when I researched places to stay in Boothbay. I assumed it was like the Bed and Breakfasts I've stayed at in the past but it was not so my friends and I were very disappointed. The stairs we had to go up were so steep and the step itself so narrow it was very difficult to carry our luggage up to the second floor, we felt we should have been told this when we booked. We never met the owner which to me is unusual for a B & B and there wasn't any "gathering area" to talk, play card or just relax. The TV in the room was the size of a computer monitor. They were not serving breakfast because it wasn't in season so we were compensated for that so that was good. We ate at the Thistle Inn Restaurant and the food was delicious. But $12 for a glass of wine is a bit steep.
We only stayed here for one night but it was very restful, comfortable and fun. I thought the bed was very comfortable and I slept very well. My wife said she could hear other guests at the restaurant until much later but I slept through it all. We stayed in a first floor room right outside the patio restaurant/fire pit. I would choose another room if we were to return. The breakfast was very good--eggs and corned beef hash with blueberry muffins. The coffee was good, too. The location was great. We could walk into the little downtown Boothbay Harbor area with no trouble. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would stay here again and would recommend to our friends--just be careful which room you choose.
