This is our third time at staying in this inn. Each time we have had a different room (there are 8) and have loved them all. There are many fine features of Brigadoon. The architecture and appointments enhance a feeling of really being in another time. But we can't forget to mention the staff. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. They make you feel like old friends. The food also is outstanding. The plated evening desserts are superb. The breakfasts are gourmet. While the rates are a little higher than chain hotels, the food and surroundings are worth it. We are very cautious during this time of Covid so we did not enjoy the cheery dining area. Instead, the staff gladly brought trays to our room. As a cautionary note, the parking is limited and a little tight. Also, the inn is minimally handicapped accessible. If you have a walker or wheel chair, you should call ahead to see if a first floor unit is availabe.
Property was well kept, extremely friendly and helpful, had great breakfasts cooked to order and an evening dessert. Room was spacious and met our needs very well. The location was very good for downtown shopping meaning short walking distance. The B&B staff recommended a number of restaurants for us to sample and even suggested what might be available on the menu - very nice touch.
The location was also close to the dock for taking the ferry to Mackinaw Island. We travel extensively throughout the world and we were not impressed by the island which was quaint but full of tourist shops.
The ferry had no social distancing and you sat next to other people. The island does not allow cars so streets were packed with people. We were going to take horse drawn carriage but these also had people on top of each other. We opted at higher price to have a private carriage ride and we were glad we did.
DO NOT STAY HERE !
The pictures of the property are outdated!
The staff is rude. We asked to see a room and the woman at the desk was so put out that she had to show us! She rushed us and told us to hurry, we could only look for one minute. She probably knew the room was bad. I should have known something was off then but we really enjoy staying at B&B's.
Room 203 is dated and dirty. Carpet is buckling; be careful not to trip. The shower was a drip at best. We could not take a shower in the morning, which I suppose saved us from the killer🐜 ants on the bathroom floor. The room had a balcony but was so dirty you could not sit on it. We called to complain and was told that they would contact somebody off site to get back with us.
Breakfast was a joke ! Some type of watered down rice and red pepper square, a slice of a boiled hot dog, a triangle cut piece of watermelon & a dried out pastry. The glasses were filled with an ounce of orange juice and they served cold coffee. No one came to check on us and we couldn't find anyone to see if there was something else. Minimal customer service ! When we left the one woman behind the desk didn't acknowledge; acted like she didn't want to be bothered.
We had to call again to speak to someone about our stay. We finally got a call back from Tim, who was calling us from Mackinac Island. He was rude and basically said he didn't believe us, he didn't care and oh well.
Our stay at the Brigadoon was wonderful. The location is excellent; in walking distance of the ferry to the island, and close to all the shops and restaurants in Mackinaw City. Their attention to detail with the COVID 19 situation was excellent. Our room was immaculate; they brought breakfast to our door, we enjoyed complimentary, delicious desserts both nights we were there, and will definitely be back.
I would’ve given zero stars if I could. We visited this bed and breakfast last year for my 40th and had an amazing experience. So we went back to the same place this year with my sister’s family. We booked two rooms and paid more for a suite because it had a sofa bed that would accommodate a 15 year old. The other room had us and 2 little kids aged 8 and 4. We drove down in two cars and the other family checked in first ( reservation was in their name). They settled down and my sister sits on the bed and the entire bed collapses ( breaks down) on one side. We reach around the same time and we inform the front desk about the bed and instead of apologizing for the inconvenience we were given attitude like we broke a bed on purpose. How does a bed break even if we want it to? We all have beds at home and don’t have a single broken bed until now. We didn’t make a big deal about it and tried to be understanding about the inconvenience caused ( without even an apology) and went out for dinner and were told it will be fixed by the time we get back. We come back after 3 hours and it still wasn’t fixed and still no apology. Both the families had to be in one room until they fixed it. After that nothing was mentioned and we checked out after 2 days. Nothing mentioned even at check out. After we get back we see a charge of $250 added to our credit card and when we called they said it was for the broken bed! When we informed the front desk about the whole situation, we were told they will get back to us but we didn’t hear back for a full week. So we called back again and spoke to Roxanne at the front desk who was nice enough to acknowledge the issue and said she will forward the issue to the management and someone should contact us soon. Again a week passed with nothing. We called back today and spoke rose who pretended to be apologetic and said she would call us back and never did. We called back again and spoke to a guy called Tim who was so rude and even made up stories that they had complaints from other guests that the kids made noise. We didn’t hear anything about it while we were there. He even said they had a police complaint lodged, but have seen or heard nothing of it until now. These are a bunch of liars who will document anything to make up some money and lose loyal customers like us who came back here because they had a good experience earlier. Way to ruin it for someone! We could’ve easily made a big issue out of it! Our kids could’ve been hurt with your bed collapsing by just sitting on it. Any one of us could’ve been hurt. We didn’t ask for any compensation for the inconvenience caused. We didn’t even complain about it and we get slapped with more money to pay for your lousy broken bed! This will be taken up to court and we will make sure your license is revoked for having flimsy beds that break on sitting. The least you could do is acknowledge the mistake, not exploit money out of the situation.
