In a nutshell we loved this hotel. Going in July on a weekend you’re paying premium, so it was pricey (for me) but here’s why it is worth it:
The hotel is small but super lovely, with gorgeous landscaping with many flowers everywhere, well lit paths to walk in with many hidden little garden corners with a bench where you can sit privately, and breathe fresh air like in a fairy garden.
The check-in room is very small but connected to a ‘sunroom’ decorated with a coastal vibe, comfy, full of light with view of their private beach.
They have their own restaurant Ketch 22, which offers lunch and dinner, while the Chesapeake Market and Deli by the parking offers that and breakfast (and essentials and spirits, because it’s also a tiny market). TBH, while the hotel restaurant has hotel prices, the food was a hit or big miss and I did not feel like spending 15$ a pop to try new food when the Chesapeake Deli has a full menu, very well priced and everything we had was delicious.
The rooms are comfortable and very clean. It seems some rooms have different decor, some nicer than others but still, the room we got at the last minute was very nice, welcoming, cool and soothing. The bathroom decor and tiles were outdated but extremely clean, and they have free makeup remover stuff!
The outside of the room were decorated like little cottages, with high pointed ceilings, fake cottage windows and a rocking chair by the entrance. The private beach was close and visible from the door, making for a very relaxing view.
Inside the room there were two windows one opposite walls so the room was full of natural light. However the wooden curtains kept it pretty dark if you wanted the room dark.
The staff was friendly and obliging. Parking was free, as well as the use of beach sports stuff like kayaks and paddle board which, when you have to pay for it in other places, you can easily pay 30$ for 30 minutes. They also included beach chairs and umbrellas for the beach. So, that made the price for the stay worth it, too. The pool looked big, and open and fun, and it had a life guard but we didn’t go because Covid. Most guests used masks as it was required by the hotel, and every staff member wore it.
Their private beach was very nice. It is not a white sand beach with clear waters, but it does the job. The fact that you can easily come and go from your room to the beach because they’re so near is the best!
Some suggestions I have are that the restaurant should make smoothies... it was hot as blazes this weekend (110’) and they would have sold a lot of those if they made them... another thing is having drinks delivered to the beach. They’d make a pretty penny going around delivering all kinds of drinks to the beach goers on non-pandemic times! Last, they should have pens on the room, I wanted to write a thank you note to the housekeeper along with the tip, and I couldn’t because I didn’t bring any pens with me.
That’s it. I hope I gave enough details to inform others. We recommend this hotel and hope to be back again someday.
