Well, this was at least my fourth stay here at Cumbres Suites. (See my review from February 2013) In the past I have stayed in the back rooms that are more like motor lodge than suite. I was fine with them though they could use more attention. This time I stayed with a friend for one night in the upstairs suites and enjoyed the spaciousness. The bathroom was quite small though and the sink doubled as the kitchen sink. There is no utensils or dinnerware other than cups for coffee. I was glad I brought my own items. We had access to the open downstairs area where breakfast items are available. All packaged and to me, not so healthy, choices. I shared some pleasantries with the owner, Kip, and then went up to our room. Once we were ready for bed I realized the room was too hot even though we had turned the thermostat way down. It remained 72 degrees. I went down to ask what we could do and was met with the rudest remark. I quote, "That's the strangest request I have ever heard. Open the window or turn the AC on" Mind you, it is February and it's below freezing out so I didn't think that's what they'd really want us to do. Needless to say with no further help or apology for his behavior, I now know I will not be staying at Cumbres Suites again unless it comes under new ownership. To get a clearer picture read ALL the reviews for this establishment. Any low scores came as a result of the rudeness of the owners and their quirky ways of handling benign situations.

From the greeting at the front desk to the goodbye at checkout this one of a kind motel was a pleasant surprise. Our room was spacious and charming, nicely decorated, very clean and quiet. The owners were very easy to talk to and willing to help in any way.

I come to Chama every summer to work as a volunteer with the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR. For the past four summers, including this one, I stayed at the Suites for five consecutive nights. The place is comfortable, clean, and I feel right at home there. Since the room I always stay in is right off the breakfast/common area, I awaken every morning to the smell of coffee brewing. Great! The breakfast is a good one, and that's important in Chama. I recommend the Suites wholeheartedly.

I had a long day on the road and stopped here to spend the night. My room #9 I think, was very nice. A big room with a comfortable bed. There is a common area and patio to relax on, if you have time. Very friendly owners. I would stay here again.

2nd time we have stayed here. Rooms are spacious and cozy. Our group of six spent a lot of time in the breakfast room visiting. Owners are great, friendly and you feel like you are visiting friends. Highly recommend for groups and those riding the Cumbres and Toltec train.
