These cottages (I stayed in #1) were just what my inner doctor ordered in terms of peace, quiet, and full access to nature's glory. The cabin itself was meticulously clean and equipped with just about anything you might need. (Except, I think, a hairdryer. But there may very well have been one somewhere -- I did not look very hard.)
By "everything" I include all the kitchen dishes, pots -- cookie sheets and pie dishes, if you feel so moved -- tons of towels, board games and books, basic toiletries and even a mini first aid kit. There is wifi, which behaved spottily my first night but was mostly fine after that.
I was on my own, so had much more space than I needed. The bedroom I used looked directly out over the bay which allowed for going to sleep and waking up to wave sounds. Idyllic. The beach itself is easy to access for most people. There's a wooden stair case from near cabin three. There are many rock and pebble beaches on Grand Manan Island, but this one is almost entirely sand. At the time of year I visited (late October, granted not exactly high tourist season) I rarely encountered more than two or three other souls.
I literally spent hours either on the deck or looking out the main window watching birds (there was a feeder), fishing boats, and waves.
I greatly enjoyed my Grand Manan sojourn, and plan to go back. Without hesitation I would book at Beach Front Cottages again.
We've been staying at Beachfront every summer for about the past 10 years. The cottages are well appointed, clean and comfortable. The view is simply amazing, looking out over Seal Cove and Wood Island. The beach -- a short walk down a well-built staircase from the cottages -- is the most beautiful on Grand Manan, with fine sand and calm, swimmable waters.
The cottages themselves are comfortable and clean. Each has two bedrooms. Living space varies depending on unit. Each has its own deck with BBQ (though the quality of the BBQs varies). Washrooms feature shower or shower/bath. Well water quality is excellent.
The proprietor, Tammy, lives up the hill on the same property and is available to assist if needed. However, the cottages are far enough from each other and from Tammy's house to give you a feeling of privacy. It's generally a quiet, peaceful place dominated by sun and fog, the smell and sound of the ocean, and the picturesque view of Seal Cove itself -- the pretty fishing village a few minutes walk away.
This is a fabulous choice for those coming to the Island by car. Seal Cove is midway down Grand Manan, giving you easy access to both the southern part of the island (very few people, lots of water and hiking trails) and the north (more people and businesses). The Island's grocery store is a few minutes drive to the north. Southwest Head is a few minutes drive to the south.
We stayed at Pa's place this past Sept 2013. We enjoyed a family vacation and had lots of room for 7 adults. We especially enjoyed the porch over-looking the wharf. Loved watching the fishing boats coming and going. This older home was very clean and very comfortable. This was our first visit to Grand Manan and loved it. We highly recommend Pa's place for families that need room and comfort!
