The Broadgate experience is excellent - a warm and friendly welcome and a breathtaking house in rural South Cumbria. Don't expect en-suite facilities, but the bedrooms are large and comfortable, complete with antiques, blankets and eiderdowns. There is no wi-fi and precious little phone signal, which is a plus for me! Breakfast is freshly-cooked and excellent. Fully deserving of its 5* rating on TripAdvisor.
A wonderful 200 year old house beautifully decorated and cared for.
Extremely comfortable and spacious accommodation
Di lewthwaite is a special hostess, very welcoming and a superb cook. We had a delicious dinner one night in her very elegant dining room.
Broadgate house is the most impressive B&B/hotel I have ever stayed in. The 200 year old house is grand yet very homely- host, Di, welcomes you and makes you feel like a special guest in her house. The room and separate, private bathroom (with shower cubical and free standing bath) were spacious and tastefully decorated with period furniture. We shared a three course dinner with the other guests which was charged at £30 per head including wine. Breakfast the next morning was excellent with lots of options and a excellent cooked breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you!
We chose to stay Broadgate House for two nights on the strength of the excellent reviews. We were not disappointed. The house is a beautiful Georgian mansion, surrounded by gardens of somewhat faded splendour, but still most charming. The sheep in the adjoining field added to the bucolic charms.
Our room was truly enormous, the emperor size bed extremely comfortable, and the vista from the bedroom window was lovely. In short, excellent.
Our hostess was friendly and gracious, offering us sandwiches, cake and tea upon our arrival. Her excellent breakfasts also did not disappoint.
To conclude, Broadgate House is a true gem. Highly recommended.
Staying with Di at her lovely home was just as good as others have described. Di is a great hostess, very welcoming, and the stay was full of touches which make you feel totally at home and almost like a member of the family, not a B and B guest. From the welcome with tea and scones, to the glass of wine by the woodburner, the delicious supper chatting to Di by the Aga, chatting with other guests, retiring to my comfy bed finding the electric blanket had been turned on, the breakfast in the sunny light dining room, and tour of the fantastic garden, nothing was too much travel. Hihly recommended.
